Battlefield 3 System Requirements (Can’t Play it on your Computer?)

The main reason a lot of you will buy Battlefield 3 for is the multiplayer gaming. You will not be disappointed in that area, especially since it supports 64 person multiplayer games (this is for PC only). Patrol the skies in an aircraft or fight on the ground in a vehicle or on foot. Battlefield 3 has beautiful graphics with good detail on objects when you look at them close up. Since they upped the ante in the graphics department this means that your old Battlefield 2: Bad Company gaming PC needs to be upgraded. Battlefield 2’s minimum processor is any Intel Core2Duo. So
even if you have an older, slow 1.8 GHz Core2Duo it will run. Battlefield 3 raises this requirement to an Intel Core2Duo 2.4 GHz. The Battlefield 2: Bad Company minimum graphics card is the GeForce 7800 GT. Battlefield 3 raises the minimum requirement to a GeForce 8800 GT. It is also important to note that unlike BF2, the newer Battlefield 3 does NOT support Windows XP. It only works on Windows 7 and Vista (32 and 64-bit).
Looking at the Battlefield 3 minimum PC system requirements closely, it is the most hardware demanding PC game out as of 2011. There are games that come close like Crysis 2’s system requirements, but Battlefield 3 edges it out since it requires a bit faster processor. If you really want to get the full detail with beautiful graphics being displayed on your HD LCD I highly recommend having a quad-core processor and a GeForce GTX-series graphics card.
Either way please compare your PCs system specifications with Battlefield 3s system requirements.

re: plz help me [jon s]
Hi Jon. Thanks for posting your full PC specs, it helps a lot.
The Intel Core i5-2300 and 6 GB of RAM will run Battlefield 3 really well. But the Intel HD graphics card is below the minimum system requirements.
To play Battlefield 3 without any problems I recommend buying a graphics card with a Radeon HD 6770 graphics engine. They sell for around $110 on NewEgg and Amazon. Installation is simple, just go on YouTube and lookup “How-To Install a Graphics/Video card”. There should be 15+ tutorials on how to do that. The first time you install a video card it will take around 10-15 minutes. The second time, maybe 90 seconds.
plz help me
can bf3 run on this set up, and if it cant can some one plz tell me how to fix it and how much it would cost me to do so. thanks for the help in adv.

re: BF3 running laggy, sound and picture stutter or stick [Guest
- Desktop -
CPU: Intel Pentium E2220
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5450
4gb RAM
Windows Vista 64-bit
Hello. Thanks for posting all of your specs, it helps a lot. I see what the problem is. According to the makers of Battlefield 3 the ATI Radeon HD 5450 is not compatible with the game. It is not b/c it will not run but b/c the card is too slow to run the game with any decent frame rate. Battlefield 3 is one of the most hardware demanding games out, very tough on PCs.
I recommend upgrading to the Radeon HD 6770 or faster. The Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 is selling for about $100 right now on NewEgg.
btw, the Intel Pentium E2220 is compatible but not by much. It is a little slow for BF3 standards. Even with the Radeon HD 6770 or faster graphics card I do not recommend going crazy on the graphics settings. Set the graphics settings to low.
re: misunderstanding [Blade900w]
Hey Blade. Thanks for clarifying that. Good to know. I am sure there are a lot more people with the same problem, they are just too shy to post on here.
It would be very interesting to know what app or process is causing conflicts with the keyboard and mouse when playing BF3.
misunderstanding
Hi Joey,
I think you misunderstood.... I didn't do a clean install, I did a clean boot. i.e. shut down all unnecessary services and startup programs in msconfig. For me, a reinstall of windows would require a much better reason than a game not running to warrant all the hassle it would cause with the 'work' side of my computer... although, now I've had a go at the game, maybe not!
Anyway, as I said before, when I get time to go through the elimination process, I'll let you know what I find out.. it my come in useful in the future.
BF3 running laggy, sound and picture stutter or stick.
BF3 runs slowly on my system. It runs but there is delay and lag. The audio sort of stutters.
My comp specs:
Desktop w/
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.40GHz
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5450
4gb RAM
64 bit Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 2 (build 6002)
I can tell this would be a great game if I could get it to play at the proper speed.
Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
re: Getting somewhere! [Blade900w]
Hi Blade. You were thinking like a tech, If all else fails wipe out Windows and reinstall it from scratch, hehe. I didn't suggest that option since I was not sure if you wanted to erase your data or if you even had the Windows install discs laying around somewhere.
But yes, it was some sort of conflict. Your hardware specs are fine. People run BF3 with slower computers than what you have.
Getting somewhere!
Hi Joey,
I haven't been able to source a usb keyboard but, in the meantime, I did a 'clean boot' (don't know why I didn't think of it before..) and the game runs perfectly! I haven't had time to go through the elimination process to find out which program is conflicting but, as soon as I do, I will let you know. Thanks for all your help and suggestions so far.
re: BF3 lag problems [Aloysius]
Hello Aloysius. Thanks for posting all of your specs. The graphics card passes the Battlefield 3 minimum system requirements. Game-O-Meter probably does not have that graphics card in their database since it is not that common.
About the laggyness, you are right, even though your graphics card passes the bare minimums it is not that fast for BF3 standards. It can only handle very low graphics settings within BF3, anything higher and it gets overstressed and slows down your overall gameplay.
Perform the following optimizations for your laptop. It will speed up your PC a bit while playing Battlefield 3.
#1 –Fully update Windows 7. (Some games will not run properly if Windows is not fully updated.) Make sure all of the updates are installed then restart your PC. Check for new updates that popped up after the restart.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...
#2 – Download/Install the latest Mobility Radeon drivers for your setup from this site: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
#3 – Restart your computer after the graphics drivers are installed
#4 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#5 – Make sure the laptop is plugged into the A/C power adapter before and during gameplay. If it is unplugged the CPU and Graphics card might power down to save battery life. This is bad for gaming and will decrease frame rates (it sometimes makes a compatible laptop fall into the non-compatible category).
#6 – Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk before and during gameplay; preferably in a cool area. The last thing you want to do is play with the laptop on your lap. Laptop overheating can cause a laptop to crash while playing the latest games. It might also force the laptop to slow down your CPU, which again is very bad for gaming.
#7 – Run Game Booster, then run Battlefield 3
#8 – Go into the BF3 settings and set everything to the absolute lowest possible. The only exception is the is the monitor Resolution. You can set that to something that is medium to high.
Save / Apply setttings
#9 – Play BF3
Hey Joey, So I've been
Hey Joey,
So I've been playing BF3 a little bit, but the overall gameplay is slow and laggy. Not chunky as such, but just...slow to react. It is very frustrating to play. The most frustrating thing is that I apparently have all the specs in terms of hardware (and the drivers are up to date), but I just went to that YouGamers website and did their Game-O-meter thingy and it said that my graphics card is insufficient. This is despite the tech specs of the card saying that it is within what BF3 demands. Anyway, here are the specs:
- Windows 7 64-bit
- Intel Quad core i7, Q740 @ 1.74 GHz
- 8.00 Gb of RAM
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 560v (1.00 Gb)
- Laptop
It's probably the graphics card, but, well, any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
re: how i can run BF3 [Anas]
Hi Anas. Thanks for posting all of your laptop specs. Your laptop is fast enough to pass the harsh PC hardware requirements. I believe the problem is associated with an old graphics driver, Windows is not fully updated or the graphic settings are set too high.
Follow every step below. It will take care of all of the problems I mentioned and also further optimize your laptop to play BF3 the best it can…
1st -- - Fully Update Windows 7
-- Here is my Windows 7 Update tutorial: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...
2nd --- Download / Install the latest graphic drivers for the GeForce 540M running on a Win7 64-bit laptop.
-- Here is the exact driver download page for your setup: http://j.mp/zNYFLK
3rd --- After the new graphics drivers are installed restart your PC
4th --- Install the free app named “Game Booster”
5th --- Make sure the laptop is plugged into the A/C power adapter. If it is unplugged the processor will be powered down to save batter life. This would be horrible for games and make it super laggy
6th --- Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk before and during gameplay; preferably in a cool area. The last thing you want to do is play with the laptop on your lap. Laptop overheating will also slow down a processor and cause lag
7th --- Run Game Booster, then Run Battlefield 3
8th --- Go into the graphics settings and set everything to the lowest possible. Then Save/Apply settings
(If it runs okay with the lowest settings then you can test out higher settings)
how i can run BF3
i have labtop intl c2d i5 2.5 withe turpo up to 3.1
6g RAM
win 7 64bit
gravic card nvidia gforce 540M 2g
when i try to plat and after joining the server the screen come balck. only i can hear the sound
re: 1 more test [Blade900w]
Hey Blade. The GeForce GTX 570 is a very fast gaming card for the current Battlefield 3 standards. It can run BF3 on high settings.
But don’t spend any money on a graphics card yet. While the 8800 GTS is not nearly as fast as the GTX 570 it is still a decent card for the current gaming standards. The GTX 570 and 8800 GTS will work the same with Photoshop. Photoshop is just 2D. What speeds up Photoshop is adding more RAM on your PC. Then you can open up multiple images that are very large in file size without slowing down.
I am thinking that your keyboard and/or mouse are having issues with Battlefield 3. I need you to test my theory out. Get a wired keyboard and wired mouse from someone. I am not sure if you have another computer at home, or maybe you can quickly borrow one from a family member, friend or next door neighbor.
Then make sure your PC is turned off and disconnect your wireless keyboard and mouse. Connect your wired keyboard and wired mouse. Turn on your PC. Then run Battlefield 3. See if you can actually play (for testing purposes just set the BF3 graphics to low).
Does it do the same thing?
btw, I am thinking you have a similar issue to my problem. My Razer gaming mouse buttons randomly stop responding while I am playing the new Star Wars game. This does not happen when I play any other game using this exact mouse. I looked it up online and found out it is happening to other people with my mouse playing the same game. I solved this issue by installing old drivers and old Razer configuration software. (My Logitech G13 Keypad also has issues with this game but they are minor.)
A frustrating... no
Hi Joey,
Got the latest updates for the keyboard and mouse, followed your suggestion to turn Game booster on once the game had started... but still the same.
I think I need to think about upgrading the graphics card.
As I work a lot with photoshop and images (yeah, I know, I should have a Mac!) it's probably not a bad thing to do anyway.
What's your opinion on the Nvidia GTX570?
re: Will it run on low? [The cool guy]
Processor: 1.64 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics: Radeon HD 6320
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Hello. I am sorry to say that Battlefield 3 will not run well on your laptop, if it even runs. The reason is that CPU and graphic card are both below the BF3 minimum system requirements. It it even installs without any errors, the lag you will get will be horrible, maybe even freeze up your laptop.
re: Still the same [Blade900w]
Hi Blade. On the Game Booster forums 1 workaround to that problem is to launch Battlefield 3 first, then launch Game Booster.
If Game Booster does not help with the problem…
- Download / Install the latest driver software for the Logitech LX 710, located here: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/433/147
- Then go on the Logitech website and download / install the latest driver software for your Laser Mouse
- After both are installed, restart the PC again and try to play BF3
btw, yeah, there are a lot of trolls on the Internet that have a lot of time on their hands. I used to be one years back when I had a job with a lot of free time on my hands, hehe.
Will it run on low?
Windows 7 64-bit
1,64 ghz
4g ram
6320 hd
Laptop
On lowest setting?
Still the same
Hi Joey,
Thanks for your rapid and comprehensive reply.
Windows updates - All up to date
Driver 285.62 - already installed
Game booster - Downloaded and installed. However, as soon as the game launches, it reverts itself back to normal mode.... I read in a forum somewhere that this was an issue with the earlier versions that should have been fixed in this latest version... but no.
The game is still acting the same.
I have tried to reduce the graphics settings to low before entering the game but to no avail. The game uncontrollable flicks through each setting and makes changes as it goes (bizarre!).
As I show in the video [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIv7AmyFp_I ], even if I disconnect the keyboard/mouse USB receiver, the game will carry on scrolling through options by itself. However, to completely rule out the keyboard and mouse, I am trying to find someone that can lend me USB connected devices.
As you asked, my keyboard is a Logitech LX 710 cordless. And the mouse is a Logitech Laser Mouse (sorry no model number) about 4 years old.
FYI: EA 'support' have finally replied telling me that they cannot help me with an 'in game' related issue and that I should post on the official forum and seek help there!
I already did that before contacting them, and I got replies varying from:
'Your joystick is stuck' (I don't have a joystick)
'you are picking up signals from someone else's wireless keyboard/mouse (unlikely.)
'8800 GTS... LMAO!!'
and 'wow, your clock is really annoying!'
So, not very helpful!
re: Intel mobile Chipset grpahics [Gowtham]
Hi Gowtham. I am sorry to tell you that all Intel graphic cards are well below the Battlefield 3 minimum system requirements. Electronic Arts (the makers of BF3) say all “integrated / on-board” graphic cards will not run BF3. All Intel cards are “integrated / on-board”.
You need to install BF3 on a fast desktop PC with a fast gaming graphics card, and fast CPU. There are also companies that sell fast, gaming laptops. HP, Dell, Asus, Acer and Toshiba are just a few companies that sell them.
hi i'm having intel core 2
hi i'm having intel core 2 duo T6500@2.1Ghz and i downloaded the game but when i run it it says "Direct X Device Creation Error" but i've updated direct x pls help..
will it run on my pc?
ram:3gb
graphics:1gb intel mobile chipset express family
re: BF3 unplayable for me... [Blade900w]
Hi Blade. Thanks for posting your PC specs. The video helped a lot. I know I would have a tough time understanding your problem if you just typed it.
You have a really fast gaming CPU and more than enough RAM. No problem there. The graphics card should be able to run BF3 at medium to high settings smoothly.
Try the following in order to see if your problem can be fixed…
#1 –Fully update Windows 7. (Some games will not run properly if Windows is not fully updated.) Make sure all of the updates are installed then restart your PC. Check for new updates that popped up after the restart.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...
#2 – Update to the latest GeForce 8800 GTS driver (BF3 had tons of issues with lots of nVidia cards and this driver fixed a lot of them). Get it at the nVidia site. Since you posted all of your PC specs I was able to look it up for you:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-285.62-whql-driver.html
Restart your PC after the drivers are updated.
#3 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html (This will temporarily close Windows background processes and apps that are not needed when playing games. This helps fix some errors / conflicts)
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#4 – Run Game Booster
#5 – Run Battlefield 3
After performing steps 1-5 in order, is it still doing the same thing? If the answer is yes, then please reply with what keyboard and mouse you are using. I need the model numbers of both.
BF3 unplayable for me...
Hi, I am having a problem playing BF3 which is easier to show than describe, so I've uploaded a short clip of my screen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIv7AmyFp_I
I have tried to get some support from EA but they are failing badly... the only suggestion they have come up with so far (that's in 4 days of messaging back & forth) is to reset my screen res to 1024 x 768!.. of course, this did not do anything apart from distort everything.
I hope someone here can give me some sensible pointers as to what settings are wrong on my computer.... I'm itching to play this game!
My specs are:
Platform - PC
OS - Win 7 64bit
RAM - 8gb
Processor - Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz
G Card - Nvidia 8800 GTS
DirectX - 11
re: Wil this work On This computer? [WantToPlayBf3Badly]
Hello. That desktop PC you linked will not run BF3 well, if it even runs. The reason is, according to the makers of Battlefield 3 the graphics card on that PC is not compatible. BF3 is one of the PC hardware demanding games out and runs slow on a lot of PCs.
I recommend buying a lower priced desktop PC with the same Intel Core i3 CPU, 4 GB of RAM and a very basic graphics card. Then buy a graphics card separately and install it yourself. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that show you how to easily install it. If you buy a desktop PC with a graphics card that is fast enough to play BF3 they will overcharge you.
Here are the graphic cards I recommend…
Play BF3 very smoothly on LOW graphic settings: Radeon HD 6670 (around $75 on NewEgg and Amazon)
Play BF3 smoothly on MEDIUM Graphics settings: Radeon HD 6770 (around $110 on NewEgg and Amazon)
Play BF3 smoothly on HIGH Graphics settings: Radeon HD 6870 (around $170 on NewEgg and Amazon)
Wil this work On This computer?
Here is a link at a computer I'm looking to get... What settings could BF3 be played on for the computer, if it even can be. TY, http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=03553...
re: BF3 gaming [jicky]

Graphics: nVidia GeForce GT 440
Hi jicky. Battlefield will run on your PC. I’d run it on medium settings 1st. If it gets too laggy during gameplay you have to drop it down to low settings to smooth things out.
I’d recommend updating to the latest GeForce GT 440 drivers from the nVidia site: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
The latest drivers run BF3 the best.
