Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 System Requirements (Can’t play it on your computer?)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially the best selling game of all-time. For any gamer that loves the First Person Shooter genre it is
THE game to own right now. It has killer graphics, cool gameplay and new weapons. In contrast I have heard a few negatives about it like the single player game is too short and the online play is not as good as the original Modern Warfare. Still, that will not hold me back from buying it this weekend.
Before you rush out to buy it I strongly urge you to check to see if you at least meet the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 system requirements posted below. If you have a laptop odds are it will not be compatible and you cannot upgrade it to make it compatible, the only exceptions are expensive, high-end gaming laptops. If you have a desktop PC you need a pretty decent one to at least meet the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 minimum system requirements.
If you are unsure of any particular computer specification you may have that is not a problem. Just follow this tutorial and it will show you how to find all your PC system specs.
MINIMUM System Requirements
• Operating System: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
• CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz / AMD 64 3200+ or better
• RAM: 512 MB on XP / 1 GB on Vista and Windows 7
• Graphics Card: 256 MB nVidia GeForce 6600GT / ATI Radeon 1600XT / or better Shader 3.0 video card
• DirectX: Microsoft DirectX 9.0c
• Sound card: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible
• Hard Drive: 12 GB free space (33 GB of initial space if you are downloading it)
RECOMMENDED System Requirements
• CPU: 2.4 GHz dual core or better
• RAM: 1 GB on XP / 2 GB on Vista and Windows 7
• Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 7800 / ATI Radeon X1800 / or better Shader 3.0 video card
• Co-op/Multiplayer Hosting: To host Co-op or MP matches, a 2 GHz dual-core or better processor is recommended
What is the difference between the minimum and recommended system requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you may be wondering? The difference is that if your computer just meets or barely exceeds the minimum requirements it you will be able to play Modern Warfare 2 only at a low resolution and minimal graphic settings, for smooth gameplay. If your computer meets or exceeds the recommended requirements you should have no trouble playing Modern Warfare 2 at medium to high resolution and matching graphic settings, depending on how high-end your PC is.
Below are 2 videos from YouTube. One of them is the official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Launch Trailer and the second is just full of gameplay footage. These videos sold me on the game, they’re awesome.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT INSTALLING Modern Warfare 2 OR ARE NOT SURE IF YOUR PC IS COMPATIBLE FEEL FREE TO ASK BELOW! :-)

RE: What are the internet speed requirments?
yes my computer does meet all of the other following requirements. I took the test and my ping was 267, my download was 1.04, and my upload was 0.14 and so i take it that means my upload would be like 140KB/s if I'm correct or no? and if so that meaning that my internet is probably to slow to run it online?
RE: What are the internet speed requirments?
Test the Internet speed on your computer you plan to play COD:MW2 on.
I show you how to test your computer Internet speed here: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Test-Internet-Speed-DSL-Cable-Satell...
If your computer's UPload speed is a Minimum of 512K then it would be fast enough to play the game on the net.
(I am also assuming your computer passes all of the minimum hardware specs. If not then it does not matter how fast your net speed is, it will not play it)
What are the internet speed requirments?
I'm just wondering exactly what are the internet speed requirements for this game online. My internet source is (sadly) my black berry curve tethered to to my computer and it runs better than dial up though and i play World of Warcraft just fine with a latency of 200-400. I am just wondering if my internet would be good enough to handle it online before i go out and buy the game.
Plz reply to this.
Plz and thanks.
Reinstalling Modern Warfare 2
Hi Jonas,
I did something similar. I had MW2 installed on a computer, then I reformatted it and reinstalled it. But I reinstalled it differently.
I logged onto my Steam account and installed it from there. Try logging into your Steam account and install it from there. I know it will take like 10x longer to install but that should work :-)
how can i install my copy of
how can i install my copy of MW2 on my laptop, i have the system requirement needed, and i just bought the laptop recently running on W7. i've intalled it previously on my desktop, but i already sell that and he reformatted it already. i still have the original installer, the 2 dvd box set with key. i tried to install it, but it says that i already used the said account. could you help me on this. thanks.
GeForce Go 7400 on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Hello,
The game would install correctly. You would be able to start the game. But the gameplay would be very, very slow with that video card even at the lowest graphic settings and resolution. Gameplay would not be smooth and might freeze like every 5 seconds for a bit.
I would trust your friends on this one. Do not buy the game for that laptop. You would be very unhappy if you did.

video card or driver doesnt support dynamic textures on COD MW2
It sounds like your video card is not compatible with Modern Warfare 2. Do you have a laptop or desktop? If it is a desktop you might be able to upgrade it. I just need your system specs. Or if it is an HP, Dell, Gateway, Sony or other known brand I could look it up myself. In that case I need a your model number.
Here is how to find your system specs in case you have a custom built PC. http://www.cleartechinfo.com/Learn-How-To-Find-Computer-System-Specs-SIW
video card or driver doesnt
video card or driver doesnt support dynamic textures can u help me?
You are very welcome Drakus
I have been playing MW2 since last month. It rocks, you will love it.
Biggest negative so far is the limited amount of players per server (18 max) compared to all of the COD versions that came before it. Also the server is always a player, so it is slightly laggy half the time. Despite that, I love the gameplay.
For Joey, a Much Needed Thank You
I honestly cannot believe that you did all that for me. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I know I have said this enough already, but I appreciate all of this. Everything you have done. These are much cheaper than what I was thinking so this will work for me. Thank you again and I will definitely recommend you for the Nobel Peace Prize for your work in computer help.
For Drakus, Upgrade vs New Computer
np Drakus. I have been building my own computers since the late 90s. :-D
I didn't choose a cheap config that cost a little but will barely run MW2 at low resolutions. I didn't choose the latest generation of CPUs and video cards that will cost you over $900 either. I chose something in the middle.
I put the parts you will need to upgrade in a cart on NewEgg. It will be a minimum of $583 (no tax or shipping included) http://i47.tinypic.com/2rptqvo.png
NOTE: I am not sure about the case you have and if it will fit a standard motherboard of if you will have to also buy a new case. A case was not included in the config for $583.
I configured you a computer on the HP website. It will be $539 for the PC and $95.99 for the video card I chose for you from NewEgg ($634.99, no tax or shipping included). Here is a link to the HP cart http://bit.ly/HP-p6250t-010310
You save about $52 if you build the computer on your own. The $52 will give you a warranty for all the parts from a single company, HP and also save you any hassle of building your own computer.
Good Ole Joey
A whole new computer eh??? Well I mean, I use the comp a lot for gaming now so something within a decent range...I really don't have an exact price cuz I am not sure on prices for computers. Never shopped around. I know they are pretty pricey though. I've been looking into mobo's, vid cards, but then I would have to upgrade other things to fit those wouldn't I? I've learned that it's all about the power supply when looking into vid cards, from a friend of mine. Woof this is a hassle haha. I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor right now, but I would have to replace that too if I buy other parts. Again, I really appreciate you taking time to talk to a 22 year old fart like me about this. You are a real man.
Drakus
You are welcome Drakus,
I just checked the specs on your "MSI K8N Neo3-FSR" motherboard. It's not worth upgrading the CPU and RAM. I recommend buying a new computer or upgrading what you have with a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and power supply.
I will check out prices on both for you. Give me about an hour.
Much Appreciated
I truly appreciate your response and link to this site from Yahoo Answers. I know that my ATI Radeon X850 is crap for this game and the GeForce 9500 GT is not much better, but with my system, thats the only one that will work for my comp unless I revamp my whole mobo which will cost me a lot of money. In your opinion (which I definitely take into consideration seeing as you know a lot about this), is it worth it just to update the vid card or just go for a total upgrade of the mobo? If you say to upgrade it all, what do you recommend and do you have an estimated price on what it would cost? I truly appreciate your help whole heartedly.
Core i7, 6 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 3450
Hello Tom,
Your CPU and RAM greatly exceed even the “Recommended” specs. Honestly I envy your CPU, hehe, the Core i7s are killer. I am sure that the Core i7 and 6 GB of RAM will even be compatible with COD:MW3 whenever that comes out.
The part that does not meet the minimum specs is the ATI Radeon HD 3450. The graphics engine that is contains is slower than the “Minimum” ATI Radeon 1600XT.
I recommend that you do not buy MW2 until you get another graphics card. I have the GeForce 9600 GT on my computer and it runs MW2 flawlessly at medium to high graphics settings (and this is with a slower CPU and less memory compared to your system). The 9600 GT is a very good card that is under $100. Here is a link to it on Amazonhttp://bit.ly/PNY-9600GT
If you want a killer graphics card from the latest generation of nVidia cards I recommend the GTX 260 http://bit.ly/BFG-GTX260
Modern Warfare 2
I suppose if I were to buy MW2 and bring it home and find out it's not compatible with my system, I'd have a tough time taking it back for a refund. Given the following system specs, can you tell me if my system will run MW2 or is more information needed:
Quad Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
Windows Vista Home Premium
6 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3450 (256 MB RAM)
Thanks for your help.
Intel 82915g Modern Warfare 2 compatibility
I've had several people ask me if their on-board ("built-in") Intel 82915g ("915G") video card was compatible with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I am sorry to say that it is not compatible.
SOLUTION: If you have a laptop with this video card there is nothing you can do to upgrade it. You must buy a new laptop to play Modern Warfare 2.
If you own a desktop there is a chance you will have an expansion slot for a video card on your computer. You can buy a video card for it through places like Amazon. Feel free to post your full system specs and I can recommend you a video card for your computer.
