Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 System Requirements (Can’t play it on your computer?)

Modern Warfare 2 system requirements

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially the best selling game of all-time. For any gamer that loves the First Person Shooter genre it is

THE game to own right now. It has killer graphics, cool gameplay and new weapons. In contrast I have heard a few negatives about it like the single player game is too short and the online play is not as good as the original Modern Warfare. Still, that will not hold me back from buying it this weekend.

Before you rush out to buy it I strongly urge you to check to see if you at least meet the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 system requirements posted below. If you have a laptop odds are it will not be compatible and you cannot upgrade it to make it compatible, the only exceptions are expensive, high-end gaming laptops. If you have a desktop PC you need a pretty decent one to at least meet the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 minimum system requirements.

If you are unsure of any particular computer specification you may have that is not a problem. Just follow this tutorial and it will show you how to find all your PC system specs.

MINIMUM System Requirements
• Operating System: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
• CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz / AMD 64 3200+ or better
• RAM: 512 MB on XP / 1 GB on Vista and Windows 7
• Graphics Card: 256 MB nVidia GeForce 6600GT / ATI Radeon 1600XT / or better Shader 3.0 video card
• DirectX: Microsoft DirectX 9.0c
• Sound card: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible
• Hard Drive: 12 GB free space (33 GB of initial space if you are downloading it)

RECOMMENDED System Requirements
• CPU: 2.4 GHz dual core or better
• RAM: 1 GB on XP / 2 GB on Vista and Windows 7
• Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 7800 / ATI Radeon X1800 / or better Shader 3.0 video card
• Co-op/Multiplayer Hosting: To host Co-op or MP matches, a 2 GHz dual-core or better processor is recommended

What is the difference between the minimum and recommended system requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you may be wondering? The difference is that if your computer just meets or barely exceeds the minimum requirements it you will be able to play Modern Warfare 2 only at a low resolution and minimal graphic settings, for smooth gameplay. If your computer meets or exceeds the recommended requirements you should have no trouble playing Modern Warfare 2 at medium to high resolution and matching graphic settings, depending on how high-end your PC is.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT INSTALLING Modern Warfare 2 OR ARE NOT SURE IF YOUR PC IS COMPATIBLE FEEL FREE TO ASK BELOW! :-)

Here are 2 videos from YouTube. One of them is the official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Launch Trailer and the second is just full of gameplay footage. These videos sold me on the game, they’re awesome.

re: call of duty modern warefare 2 [Stranger]

Hi Stranger. Thanks for posting your full specs. I see a problem with your graphics card. The Mobile Intel GMA x3100 graphics card is “integrated / on-board”. The makers of COD: Modern Warfare 2 (and MW3) say that “Integrated / On-board” graphic cards are not compatible with the games. There are some that break this rule. I have seen the latest Intel HD 3000 integrated graphic cards run MW2 and MW3, slowly but it still runs. But the latest Intel HD graphic cards are a LOT faster than the x3100 and are also setup with the latest, fastest Intel gaming CPUs from the Core i3, i5 and i7 family.

I am sorry to say, even if the game would run, it would be so laggy MW2 would not be enjoyable to play. It might even freeze during gameplay.

call of duty modern warefare 2

when i open the iw4sp.exe it says steam.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

re: F.E.A.R. running on Windows 7

If FEAR does not run on Windows 7 then you just have to play it in Windows XP "compatibly mode". There are videos on YouTube that show you how to run older games on Win7 using that feature.

Also here is a something I found on the Microsoft Windows site that talks about the subject: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/fe...

F.e.a.r will work on windows

F.e.a.r will work on windows seven, right?

I'll do that, thanks!

I'll do that, thanks!

re: Damon

Checkout the "F.E.A.R." series of games.

Here are really good shooter games that don't need a super fast computer to run well. You can go on YouTube and search for trailers or videos on there. I am sure there are many.

FEAR 1: http://store.steampowered.com/app/21090/

Doom 3: http://store.steampowered.com/app/9050/

Half-Life 2: http://store.steampowered.com/app/220/

Your PC should easily run those games on Medium settings. Just make sure to use Game Booster.

About upgrading your graphics card...
You have to call up your laptop manufacturer and ask them. If you have an HP call HP, if you have a Dell call them.

Ask them if you can upgrade your graphics card. The one that might work for yours is the "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870". It is definitely faster than the 3470. I am not sure how much it would cost though.

Yeah, I did some research on

Yeah, I did some research on other websites, and had similar findings, thanks anyway.
Is it possible to change the card in the laptop? I read somewhere that you cant, but i don't really know.
Are there any good shooter games, with a decent campaign, that my computer would be able to run at decent graphics settings?

re: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 [Damon]

Hi Damon. I figured out what the problem was. I looked up the requirements of the original COD4: Modern Ware here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/7940/
It says you need a GeForce 6600 graphics card (desktop version).

Then I read more about the Mobility Radeon HD 3470 here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3470.9594.0.html
It says that the Mobility Radeon HD 3470 is a little bit faster than the desktop version of the Radeon HD 3450.

The minimum required card for the MW1 is the desktop version of the GeForce 6600. The GeForce 6600 is just a little bit faster than the desktop version of the Radeon HD 3450. This means that the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics card you have barely meets the minimum requirements of MW1. That is why it will only run smoothly on MW1 using low graphics settings.

I was wrong on this one. I thought the laptop versions of the HD 3470 graphic card was comparable to the desktop versions of the fast HD 3000 series of graphics card. The notebook website says this is not true and the laptop version is actually slower. Sorry about the information I gave you before.

Modern Warfare 2 would run but you’d still need to use Game Booster and it would only run okay at the lowest graphics settings. It might run a little slower than MW1 does.

I cant find a demo for

I cant find a demo for Modern Warfare 2.
Should i just buy the game, and hope for the best?

I'll have a look, thanks.

I'll have a look, thanks.

re: MW1 [Damon]

Hello Damon. The only reason I can think of why it would lag is because the original Modern Warfare might not fully support dual-core CPUs like yours. It may be too old.

Try this: See if you could find a Modern Warfare 2 demo. Download and install it. See how it runs on Medium settings.

Those specs are right. I

Those specs are right.
I have done all those things.
The settings are on high, but it will lag unless I turn them to absolute minimum, I've tried putting them on medium, still lags.

re: Modern Warfare running on a laptop [Damon]

*** I want to make sure I have your PC specs right..
- Laptop -
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
OS: Windows 7 32-bit

*** Also, you did you do everything listed below and did not skip a step?
1 – Fully update Windows 7
2 – Update to the latest ATI drivers (using the link I gave you)
3 – Plug your laptop into the A/C power adapter before running the game, and leave it plugged in during gameplay
4 – Install and run Game Booster
5 – After you run Game Booster run your game
(The only thing I might have left out is to play games with the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk. Do not play games with the laptop on your lap. Overheating will cause the computer to slow down.)

If everything above is correct, what graphics settings are you playing at? Do you set everything to high or what?

I installed all the things

I installed all the things it told me to install, and restarted my computer, the game is still laggy, is there anything else i need to do?

re: Windows 7 32-bit driver for Mobility HD 3470 [Damon]

Here is the exact file you need. Download and install the 93.2 MB file.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-32.as...

I'm running Windows 7

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit
Yeah, thats correct.
Thanks.

re: Windows 7 32 or 64-bit? [Damon]

I can get go to the site and get the exact download for you Damon. But I need to know if you are using Windows 7 32 or 64-bit.

To check what version of Windows 7 you are running...
* RIGHT-click the "Computer" icon on your Windows desktop
* Select "Properties"
* Tell me what it says for "System type"

From what I know now you have a Laptop with a laptop version of the ATI Radeon HD 3470. If any of this info is wrong please tell me now.

When i tried to install the

When i tried to install the graphics card thing from the website you linked me to, it said that it could not be installed, because of incompatable software/hardware.
Maybe there is some problem with the graphics card.

re: Damon

The only way the game would not recognize the graphics card is if the correct graphics card driver is not installed.

I am doing what you said

I am doing what you said right now.
Is it possible that the game has not recognised the graphics card, and is only running on the CPU?
That would explain the high CPU usage, and the game not running properly.

re: MW1 demo [Damon]

Hi Damon. You must follow every single step below or you will run into problems with games. Do not skip any steps. If you are not sure how to perform any of the steps below just tell me and I will give more details.

1 – Fully update Windows

2 – Update the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics driver at this site: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

3 – Play with the A/C power adapter plugged in the laptop

4 – Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk, do not play with it on your lap

5 – Install the free app named “Game Booster”. http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

6 – Run Game Booster, then run your game

The cpu usage for when i was

The cpu usage for when i was playing was at 100% at times

I downloaded the demo for

I downloaded the demo for MW1 and its really laggy, only runs smoothly on the lowest settings.
Shouldnt my computer run this smoothly?
What could be going on here?

Thanks

Thanks very much Joey!

re: COD: MW compatible with Windows 7 32-bit [Damon]

Hi Damon. The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is compatible with Windows 7 32-bit.

Thanks Joey. Also, is the

Thanks Joey.
Also, is the first modern warfare compatable with windows seven?
I'd like to get it but i dont know if its compatable, I have 32-bit Windows 7.

re: Toshiba A350 laptop running MW2 [Damon]

- Laptop -
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 3470

Hi Damon. The older Modern Warfare 2 does not need a fast PC to run. Your computer will play it really smoothly at medium, maybe high settings. Just do the following before you play…
1 – Fully update Windows 7
2 –Update your HD 3470 laptop/notebook graphics card to the latest driver. Get it from this site: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
3 – Always play with the laptop plugged in the A/C adapter or else your laptop will slow down
4 - Installing the free app "Game Booster" might help to run it even faster
