How-To Test if your PC/Mac Can Play a Game (Can Your Computer Run it?)

Primary tabs

Call of Duty: Black Ops system requirements

Does my computer meet the minimum requirements to play the game? Can I run it? Will my PC / Mac run the game fast or slow? Even if I meet the minimum requirements needed to run the game will it be best to upgrade my CPU, Graphics / Video card or both to play the game smoothly at high resolutions and with good graphics /visual settings? Every time I hear of a cool, new computer game that is coming out soon

the questions above are the first thoughts that rush through my head. Those thoughts are constantly in my head until I read the official minimum and recommended system requirements for that new, must-have computer game. I then compare the requirements to my computer specs (processor, RAM and graphics/video card). I analyze and over-analyze how my PC will run that hot, new game. Yeah, I know, I’m a freak, LOL. I have been a computer gamer since the 90s and will probably be one until the day I die. To simplify the process there are a few sites that analyze your computer for free. They compare your system specifications to the minimum required (and sometimes recommended specs) of that must-have game you plan to buy. Usually within a minute the site will tell you if you can run it. I created the video tutorial below to simplify that process. Here is just a VERY SHORT LIST of Games it tests for… Call of Duty: Black Ops, Fallout: New Vegas, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Starcraft 2. The Sims 3, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Mafia II, Empire: Total War, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioShock 2, APB, Star Trek Online, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker, Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising, Just Cause 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Civilization V, FIFA 11.

PLEASE NOTE: Even though the sites that test your computer and tell you if you can run a game are accurate most of the time, they are not always 100% accurate. There are some occasions where they will misjudge if your computer can run it. I have followed the tutorial for changing the config.cfg file and I cannot get the "god", "all ammo", or "give all" keys to work. I am running a PC, i5, 4gigs ram, 5770 card, the game runs perfect, but after pressing the tilde key no cheats show on screen as yours did in video tutorial...?

I saved as read only the .cfg file as well. Are there other levels in the game where cheats will work, or only zombie level...? I bound the letters "o" for god, "l" for ammo, amd "k" for giveall.

What if anything am I missing...?

Thanks oldcopierguy

After I press the tilde key nothing shows on the screen (like it always used to before they released any updates). From there I hit whatever keys I binded to my specific cheats like God mode.

Also this will probably Not work in Multiplayer. It will only work in Single player mode.

Other than that I just did everything I listed in my tutorial. I did not skip any steps.

Hello,

It probably give you different specs b/c your PC I fairly new and it probably does not fully recognize your CPU and Graphics card.

The Intel Core i3 370M 2.4 GHz CPU and 4 GB of RAM exceed the Call of Duty: Black Ops minimum system requirements.

The part where your laptop becomes incompatible is in the graphics card area. The Intel HD Graphics series are not meant for serious games like Black Ops and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The laptop would run the game so slow it would be unplayable or it might even freeze the PC.

I am guessing no, since you can't get around a Hardware requirements like T&L. But to know for sure I need you to post your CPU, RAM and most importantly Graphics Card specs

What are your laptop specs? If you are not sure then the tutorial below will show you how to grab that info form your PC.

Hello,

The Intel Core2Duo e7300 2.66 MHz processor is really good. It exceeds the minimum requirements for Call of Duty: World at War.
The 3 GB of RAM is really good.

The problem you have is with the built-in graphics. That type of graphics is not good at all for games like COD: WaW or newer. I recommend upgrading your graphics card.

Below is an article I wrote on what graphics cards to buy for different games. Just for COD: WaW you can buy the cheapest one on the list and it will make World at War fly. BUT if you ever plan on playing the new COD: Black Ops I’d highly recommend buying the graphics card on the my list around $100 or better.

Hello Finn,

The Intel Core i3 3.2 GHz processor and the ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics card exceed the Stalker: Call of Pripyat minimum system requirements.

You did not post how much system RAM you have but I am sure your computer exceeds the minimum required 512 MB (½ GB). Since you will be using the game on a Mac using Bootcamp I recommend that your PC has a minimum of 1 GB of RAM.
