Rage System Requirements (Can’t Play it on your Computer?)

Rage,

id, the makers of Rage are probably my favorite gaming company of all-time. It is because of their original games Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny that I ditched my Nintendo console and became very interested

in computers. Growing up I was used to games like Mario Brothers and Ninja Gaiden, then I played Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny for the 1st time. I was amazed at the original gameplay and “3D” graphics (they were just 2D graphics modified to look very 3D-ish, more 3D than anything I had ever played). The new “1st Person Shooter” gaming genre instantly became my favorite. I eagerly awaited each id Software release… the Doom family was great, the Quake family was unbelievable. Now with Rage you get something more than just a shooter game. Besides the great graphics you’d expect you also get role playing game aspects and the ability to cause havoc in your own customized vehicle.

Before you buy the game I highly recommend that you check if your PC is compatible. Rage will not run smoothly on a lot of computers.

If you have any problem installing or playing Rage smoothly on your computer or if you are not sure if your computer is compatible with Rage feel free to ask for help in the comments section below.
It would help a lot if you give us the following info on your computer when you ask for help…
- Do you have Windows, XP. Vista or 7? (also is it 32 or 64-bit?)
- Processor on your computer?
- Amount of RAM on your computer?
- Graphic card on your computer?
- Do you have a Desktop or Laptop?

If you are unsure of any particular computer specification your PC may have that is not a problem. Go to this website to test your computer compatibility with the game Rage. Besides giving you a good estimation on the compatibility of your PC it will tell you your PC’s Graphics, Processor and Memory (RAM) specs.

For more detailed specifications on your computer check out my tutorial on how to use a free program to find your PC’s specs.

re: rage minimum [Mintake]

Hello Mintake. Can you post up your PC specs please so I can take a look at them and see if I can help smooth the lag a bit?

Here is a good way of sharing all of your important PC specs online: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
- Download / Install the free version of Speccy
- When you open up Speccy use this free feature: http://minus.com/mG6siivnS#1o
- It will give you a unique website URL with your important PC specs that can be used for checking out problems
- Copy that website URL and post it here

rage minimum

My PC is very old but does meet the minimum spec but its completely unplayable. I put it on absolute minimum settings and use a program to free up pc resources and its still unplayable. I have pretty much no money so upgrading the pc is pretty much a non starter.

re: Obsession [neurohollic]

- HP Pavilion G6 laptop –
Processor: Intel Core i5 2.30 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6470M
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Hello neurohollic, thanks for posting your specs. The CPU and RAM are good, well above the Rage minimum system requirements. The slow part (for Rage standards) is the Radeon HD 6470M. I am sure it can run a lot of games on medium to high settings really smooth but Rage is totally different. It needs higher powered graphics card to run. Still, you should be able to run it a little smoother if you follow my instructions below…

#1 – Fully update Windows, then restart your PC and checked if there are any new updates. (Some games require certain Windows Updates to run properly. So be sure to download all updates you see.)
NOTE: Update everything EXCEPT any graphics drivers. The graphics drivers from Windows Update are not that good for games.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...

#2 – You said you have the latest graphics drivers installed. There are 2 or 3 places you can get them at. If you did not get the drivers from this exact AMD/ATI page then please download these drivers. They will run Rage the best. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.as...
Download the 93.2 MB file.

#3 – Restart your computer after the drivers are fully installed.

#4 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...

#5 – Run Game Booster, then run Rage (but DO NOT play it yet).

#6 - Go into the graphics settings and double check that it is set to the lowest resolution and all of the graphics details are at their lowest
Save / Apply settings.

#7 – Play Rage

Obsession

Hy,

i have an hp pavilion g6 laptop,
my specs are:
i5 dual core 2.30ghz
4gb ddr3
amd raedon hd 6470m 1 gb + intel hd shared 1gb = 2gb vram
500gb hdd
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c029819...

i have installed rage , it starts with no error but the the gameplay is very slow, it takes 2-3 sec to move one step forward, i have also tried by tunning down resolution to 640*600 the most lowest res with lowest graphics details but still no change in gameplay. i have update all of my drivers.
so if u have a clue , plz let me know. i am obsessed with this game. plz help me out brother.

re: where can i get a Processor for rage

You can buy a laptop processor at NewEgg. They are a reputable place. But I doubt you can buy a laptop processor fast enough to run Rage for under $100.

re: Rage [for dirtbikerider]

Hi John. Sorry it took so long to answer you. Your comment probably got mixed up somewhere in my que.

- This past December 12th ATI/AMD officially released a newer driver. Maybe this will solve your problem?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.as...
Download and install the 93.2 MB file.

- Also something that is very important is that you fully update Windows 7 vis MS Updates.
Here is a tutorial on how to properly update Windows 7 in case you need it: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...

- The free app “Game Booster” might help too. It closes all non-important processes and apps while you are playing PC games. It also helps speed up the game a bit.
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

where can i get a Processor for rage

i need a better Processor for my laptop for under 60$ what sights are dependable

Re:Rage wont work

Sorry about that. I have a newer dell 15r with Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310m cpu @ 2.10GHz 2.10GHz. Thats what system properties says. Its windows 7 64bit. I installed the one for windows 7 64bit and I still have the problem. It starts up and stops working. Would it be better if I just take it back and get the one for the xbox 360? Thanks for all the help!! -John

re: rage wont work

Hello dirtbikerider,

The AMD Radeon HD 6470M and 4 GB of RAM both pass the minimum system requirements for Rage. The only thing I am not sure about is your Processor since you did not list it. Please tell me the exact specs for your Processor and I will tell you if it can run Rage or not.
This Rage test site will check your PC and tell you the exact Processor it has: http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10478/

2nd, if your CPU is above the minimum requirements then you just need to update your AMD Radeon 6470M drivers. You did not say if you have Windows 7 32 or 64-bit so I included both 6470M driver links for you.

Win7 32bit - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-32.as...
Win7 64-bit - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.as...

If you have Vista or XP, DO NOT use the links above. Go here to get the correct Vista or XP drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

rage wont work

Hi,
I just got rage for pc, installed it and everything. But everytime I open it, it stops working in about 5 sec or less. I passed the test for system requirements. btw its a laptop. I have 4gb ram a AMD Radeon HD 6470M its 640mb of dedicated memory. Can I play this game or should I return it? Thanks -John

re: I Cant Get RAGE to Play

Hi Derrick,

The Intel Core i3-2310M processor and 6 GB of RAM pass the Rage minimum system requirements. I am sorry to tell you that because of the Intel HD 3000 graphics card the laptop is well below the minimum requirements for Rage. All modern Intel graphics card are “integrated” / “on-board”. Those types of graphics cards are not meant for real gaming with games like Rage (and Modern Warfare 3, Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, etc.).

I recommend trying to play the game on another computer with a fast graphics card and processor.

I Cant Get RAGE to Play

My graphics card is a Intel HD Graphics 3000 Mobile with a Intel Core i3-2310M Processor & 6144MB of Memory

for Greg (problems with Rage)

Hi Greg,

Have you updated your graphics card to the latest nVidia update from their site? The latest update (as of this writing) specifically states in the release notes that it fixes issues for several new games including RAGE.

Here is the driver update for your specific 9800M GS setup.
I am not sure if you have Vista 32 or 64-bit so I linked you to both.

32-bit Vista or 7 - http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-285.62-whql-driver.h...

64-bit Vista or 7 - http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-285.62-whql-dr...

Follow-Up to Game Booster App Question

Or could it be something else I've overlooked, like my CPU overheating?

Game Boosting App Question

Hello again! So I've been using the GameBooster App, and I think I'm shutting down something I'm not supposed to. Any game I play now will start experiencing framerate issues after about 15 minutes of play. Turning on the V-Sync seemed to fix the problem for Rage, but I started experiencing it again on the later levels, and am having similar problems with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. So I'm guessing the problem is not with Rage, but with something I'm turning off or enabling with the Game Booster Application. Any ideas what I may be turning off that is causing this?

I've been turning off the following:

re: I Cant Get RAGE to Play

Hi Derrick,

It seems like your Toshiba laptop may not be compatible with Rage. Follow the link below. It will test your 3 main hardware components (CPU, RAM, Graphics) and see how they rate with Rage's requirements.

http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10478/

I am guessing your graphics card is not compatible but I do not know for sure until I know what you have.

Also, huge thanks for the Game Booster app! It ended up improving my performance by about 46%, which made a huge difference when playing the game!!

V-Sync turned On fixed sluggishness during Rage gameplay

Hi Greg,

Thanks for posting the fix. I also have no idea why turning on v-sync would make it stop. I just looked it up at a few other forums and people argue whether or not it is a good or bad thing to turn it on. I guess you proved in your case for your computer it is a good thing :-)

Never Mind

Turning on V-Sync made it stop. I have no idea why V-Sync would stop something like that, but it worked!

Memory Leak

Thanks for your suggestion! I got the game to run smoothly, and the Game Boost app helps alot. I seem to be getting some kind of memory leak though? It will play beautifully for 15 minutes or so and then the framerate will slow to a crawl - to the point where its unplayable. The only fix I've found is to save, quit the game, and then restart it. Once it restarts its fine again, for another 15-20 minutes, and then it lags again. I updated to the latest video drivers. Any ideas?

for Greg, Core2Duo P7450, 9800m GS Rage compatibility

Hi Greg,

Thanks for posting your specs.
Your laptop's RAM is good at 4 GB.
The CPU should be okay even though it is on 2.1 GHz thanks to it being part of the "Core2Duo" family.
The GeForce 9800M GS graphics card is similar to the CPU. It will run it but it is on the slower side.

I would recommend playing Rage at low resolution/graphics settings.

Use the free Game Booster app to help speed up Rage a bit.

for Mark Demerovich, Rage compatibility

Your CPU and 4 GB of RAM are fine. Not sure if you have a GeForce 315 or 315M. The difference is that one is for laptops.

Do you have a Desktop or Laptop?

Will This Work?

Intel Core2Duo P7450 @2.13ghz
4GB of RAM
Windows Vista
GeForce 9800M GS with 512MB Video Card

It looks to me like I'll be good on most fronts, but I can't seem to find info on whether the video card will be acceptable? Will it run ok?

Can my Pc Run Rage please god let it work

I have an Acer Inspire Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with and Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7500, 4GB DDR3 Ram, 640GB HDD, Nvidia GeForce 315 512mb graphics card

I hope it runs :P Buying it tonight

for mits, HD 5800 series graphics running Rage

Hi mits, thanks for posting the graphics card.

The HD 5800 series cards run good. 5830, 5850 and 5870 (I might be missing 1 but those are the ones I know of).
When you updated to the latest drivers did you use this site? http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
If not please update to the latest drivers via that site.

After you update to the latest drivers restart your PC.
Then I recommend doing the same thing I told Tom to do…
1, download and install the free http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
2, Run Game booster, then open up Rage
3, Go into the Rage graphics settings and set all the graphic settings to the absolute lowest, Save and Exit the menu
4, Play Rage

If Rage runs really smooth then you can go into the graphics settings and bring it up a notch or 2.
