Rift PC System Requirements (Can’t play it on your computer?)

Primary tabs

Rift

I have been trying to stay away from MMORPG games since they are so addicting and time consuming. I have been MMO sober for over a year now but the new game “Rift” looks too damn good for me to ignore. The videos I have seen of it look pretty nice and I have read really good reviews on the game. One thing I did notice that sets this game apart from other MMO games

is the minimum system requirements as far as the CPU goes. It needs at least a 2 GHz Dual Core CPU to run. There are not many MMORPG games I have seen that need a “dual core” processor as the minimum. The rest of the requirements aren’t so demanding. The full minimum and recommended PC system requirements are listed below. If you are unsure of any particular computer specification you may have that is not a problem. Just follow this tutorial and it will show you how to find all of your PC system specs. PC MINIMUM System Requirements • Operating System: Windows 7 / Vista / XP (Any version of Vista and Windows 7 will work, 32 or 64-bit) • Processor: Dual Core 2.0 GHz (Intel or AMD) • RAM: 2 GB • Video/Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce FX 5900, ATI/AMD Radeon X300, Intel GMA X4500 OR Better • Video/Graphics Card Special Requirements: DirectX: 9.0c, June 2010 update • Sound card: DirectX 8.1 compliant card • Hard Drive Space: 15 GB • Internet: DSL, Cable OR other high speed connection PC RECOMMENDED System Requirements • Operating System: Windows 7 / Vista / XP (Any version of Vista and Windows 7 will work, 32 or 64-bit) • Processor: Dual Core 2.2 GHz (Intel or AMD) • RAM: 4 GB • DESKTOP Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce GTS 250 OR Better • LAPTOP Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 200M series OR Better • Video/Graphics Card Special Requirements: DirectX: 9.0c, June 2010 update • Sound card: DirectX 8.1 compliant card • Hard Drive Space: 15 GB • Internet: DSL, Cable OR other high speed connection

hello

I was wondering if my laptop can run this. Its a Samsung RV510.

It has 4GB of RAM
Pentium Dual Core 2.3 processing speed
WIndows 7 Premium 64 bit
DirectX11
Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chip Set Family

I think the only problem here is the abysmal graphics card I got. Do you know if there is anyway to replace the graphics card if this one doesn't cut it?

Hello Jwalker,

The Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.3 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM are good. They both meet the Rift recommended system requirements.

As you thought your graphics card is the slowest part of your system (when games like Rift are concerned). The Intel 4 Series Express chipset has an integrated/built-in Intel GMA graphics card. I believe it is the Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics which is the bare minimum required to run the game.

As with all laptops that have integrated graphics cards you will not be able to upgrade it.

Your Samsung RV510 laptop will be able to run Rift. Just be sure to go into the graphics settings before you even build your avatar and set the graphics settings to LOW. Also lower your Rift resolution a bit in the graphics settings screen.

If you are into MMOs I am sure you will love the game. I am addicted to it right now :)

Thanks for such the quick reply!

This is very good news. Now the only thing keeping me back from playing this game is the price. I will wait for it to be lowered then go and play it. Its a shame there is no free trial. I guess I will just have to do my research before I decide to make a purchase. It is nice to know however that there is another option other than WoW. I absolutely love MMO's and I have been playing them for years (mostly free ones).

Once again, thank you for the reply. Im glad to know my laptop will at least run it...hopefully when I lower the settings it will run smoothly.

np Andy :)

The Rift fee is a little pricey. $14.99/month. A little cheaper if you get on a subscription plan.

Hello Guest :)

Intel® Core™ i5-580M processor (2.66GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz
6GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 GPU (1GB VRAM)

You will be able to run Rift at high graphics settings with no problems. All of your specs easily exceed the Rift minimum system requirements.
Just Please Note: When playing Rift or any other new game you must play with the laptop plugged into the wall. When you use a modern laptop with just the battery it sometimes slows down your CPU and Graphics processing to save battery life. If that happens Rift will lag.

Have fun. Rift is a blast. I am really addicted to it right now, lol.

Hey, I already own rift and have been playing off and on for a while..

let me lay down my system specs rq.

windows 7
intel quad 2.4 Q6600
4 gigs of ram
nvidia geforce gtx 275

Now RIFT is running very badly for me and its been almost a year now that I have been trying to figure out why. I have come to the conclusion that it isn't my computer at all and that it is something with RIFT.

Hi Ping. Your specs are good for Rift standards. The first month Rift might have been bugged. Bug after a few updates Rift ran super smooth on my PC. You have a faster graphics card than I do but I have a faster CPU.

Do the following...

- Update Windows 7 just like I show you in this tutorial: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...

- Update to the latest GeForce GTX 570 drivers from the nVidia site. Get them here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Restart your PC after the new drivers are installed.

- Install and run the free app “Game Booster”. Here is where you get Game Booster: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

- Run Game Booster, then run Rift (but DO NOT play it yet)
-- Go into the graphic settings and set it to the preset “Med”. Do not adjust or touch anything else.
“Apply” the settings

- Play Rift

How does it run? If it runs fast now, then you can bump it up to the “High” graphics preset.

Just got a brand new laptop and after completely destroying my other one with skyrim, I want to be safe and see if rift will run on this one. :] So my specs are:

AMD Quad core w/accelerated processor 2.4/1.5GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6520 graphics
4 GB RAM

You think this is okay to run Rift on? If I screw up this laptop too I'm not getting another one..
