Try opening up "Computer" or "My Computer" to see all of your drives listed. It should be listed there.
The only Windows XP, Vista or 7 OSs that it might not work with are hacked or highly modified versions (that Microsoft and other manufacturers do not approve of). These versions take out a lot of Windows functionality to speed up your computer. The problem is that some things like MP3 players plugged in are not automatically recognized anymore. I messed with one modified version of XP last year that worked really fast. The main problem with it was wireless functionality was permanently removed and I could never get it working.
If you do not have a hacked or highly modified Windows OS then it might just need a simple Update from Windows Update. This holds true especially if you have Windows XP. One of the updates might make your computer automatically recognize the MP3 player.
