Im considering upgrading my Dell Inspiron 1545's graphics card, cpu and or RAM in order to be able to run and play games more efficiently.

The help I seek is what I should upgrade my current components too, and if they can even be upgraded (I read that some components in Dell laptops can't be upgraded).

My specs are:
Windows edition: Windows 7 home premium
Model: Dell Inspiron 1545
Processor: Celeron Dual-Core CPU    t3300 @ 2.00GHz   2.00 GHz
RAM: 4.00GB
System type: 64-bit
GPU: mobile Intel 4 series express chipset family

Hello Minty,

The 4 GB of RAM is good. Increasing the RAM would not speed up things much, if at all.
The Intel 4 series graphics card is not upgradable. It is built into the motherboard/circuit board.

The CPU could be upgraded to an Intel Core2Duo 2.4 or 2.53 GHz. This would make it run faster. You can buy the CPU for roughly $230. A tech would probably charge you about $100 for the install. Even with the new CPU upgrade the laptop would still need a better graphics card to play modern 2010/2011 games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, Shogun 2 and Portal 2 more smoothly.

I recommend saving up your money for a new laptop or desktop. Here is an example of what you can buy. I took this screen shot from the Dell website. This laptop can play ANY game out right now, even the CPU killer COD: Black Ops and GPU killer Crysis 2.
