A user on Twitter has a computer problem...

The disc drive isn't recognizing anything. Started when I tried to burn a CD earlier. Already un/reinstalled the drive and updated.

Tried an audio CD and a blank CD-R. It says Insert Disc for both.

My Answer...

That is a bad sign. If the computer recognizes the drive but the drive does not read any discs then either #1 the drive is dirty or #2 the part of the drive that reads the discs is defective

If the drive is dirty you need to clean it using either a can of compressed air or a special cleaning CD. You should be able to purchase both at your local computer or office supply store. If the drive is defective you need to purchase a new one.

In both cases I would recommend purchasing a new drive since you can get a good new CD/DVD-R for about $24 from Amazon.com. The cleaning stuff would cost you $10-$20 so it is not worth it in the long run.
