I removed the upper and lower filters and it still won't read them.
I did see in the registry I have a controlset01 controlseto2 and currentcontrolset
I deleted from the currrentcontrol set but the other  2 also have upper and lower filters
do I delete those as well ?

First I want to say, Thank you for listing all your info, it really helps us when we research your problem.  Smiley

First try the following…
1.   Uninstall the DVD-R drivers (follow my video attached below)
2.   Shut Down your computer
3.   Open up your computer case and unplug the Power connector to your DVD-R drive
4.   With the power connector unplugged start up the computer, log in and allow everything to load (like your normal computer start-up)
5.   Shut Down once more
6.   Replug the Power connector to your DVD-R
7.   Start up your computer
8.   Test out a DVD that your laptop can read
Here is the video I made for you that will go through the steps above (it will take about 1-2 minutes to load):

If that does not work here is a 2nd possible fix…
Update the Firmware on your Lite-On Lite-On LH-20A1H. Just follow the
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIRMWARE/Lite-On/Lite-On-LH-20A1H-Firmware-L06.shtml

Tell me what happens and if anything I recommended worked.

If it is a Divx movie, try downloading this free player. It reads Divx, Xvid and almost everything out there.

Then just use VLC Player to open up the files on your DVD.

My Lite-On LH-20A1L started to get these weird errors last week and failed to burn any DVD. I normally use Ritek Ridata DVD-Rs but I ran out. So I used some old Imation DVD-R media that worked when I first bought it. I was getting these weird "power failure" errors and I didn't know what the problem was. I researched it and found 2 possible solutions, clean the sensors with compressed air and change the media. It turns out that the media was the problem. I ordered and more Ritek RiData DVD-Rs and they worked flawlessly.

So here are some more possible fixes...
- Open up your cd tray and spray some compressed air in there to clean out the sensors of any dust that might have accumulated
- Change the DVD-R media to a different brand and see what happens
- Try a different piece of burning software. Below is a link to a free CD/DVD Burning software program I use it at work.

Sorry we couldn't figure out the issue. I am glad you have good, working burner now. My Lite-On is also a SATA and I love it.
