laptop wont boot

just recently i tried to turn my laptop on and it came up with the error message cant find boot device, so i tried and tried pretty much every option i could think of, i am fairly computer literate, i tried in the end to reinstall the windows 7 O.S knowing that this would potentially mean losing all my data, (apart from using recovery software which is time consuming), when i tried to do this it yet again said cant find hardware device to load the system files to, my question is - if i take out the C hard drive and put it in another computer will it potentially crash that one as well when i put the original hard drive back in for that computer, also what would i need to attach a hard drive from a lap top to a desk top comp ?

Hi Paul,

I have bad news for you. I see that exact message on PCs at my job sometimes. That usually means the hard drive is bad. It is either dead or about to die soon.

You need to buy a new laptop hard drive. If the laptop originally came installed with Windows 7 or Vista you have a “SATA II 2.5 inch” hard drive. I like Seagate hard drives but other brands will work.
