I would really like to know if this laptop is extremely capable of playing the Sims 3 fast and smoothly. I would like if it could play at the max settings.  Here is the laptop.       http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827

If it can't, is there any laptop or computer under $1200 that can?

That is an excellent laptop to play The Sims 3 as well as most other games. That is also the best laptop for gaming I have seen Under $1,200. At that price range nothing I have seen can compete.

- 4 GB of RAM is outstanding
- The 9800M GTS graphics/video card is outstanding
- The CPU is above average compared to most laptops

You will be able to play The Sims 3 smoothly at Medium settings without any problem. I can't guarantee that you will be able to play The Sims 3 at maximum settings smoothly though. You may be able to come close because of the excellent graphics card and 4 GB of RAM.

The bottleneck on the system above (as well as most laptops) is the CPU. A Core2Duo 2.2 GHz on a desktop is fast than one on a laptop. Desktop CPUs just concentrate on raw power, they don't care about how big the CPU or socket it fits into is, power consumption, overheating (although heating sometimes can be an issue) or anything else that mobile CPUs need to concentrate on.

If you really are looking for a super powerful Gaming computer under $1,200 I highly suggest you purchase this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999112000050012&type=product&id=pcmprd112100050012

My computer is fast and I custom built it myself for gaming. It will play any game out there smoothly but that gaming computer above kills mine.
