Hi when a document is displayed with the open - save option (from email or a website) I try open and on my pc (XP) they open automatically fine - in this vista laptop they disappear saying they have gone to a TEMP FOLDER when I do a search for the file they're not there -what have I done wrong? I have tried to save to documents or desktop and still not successful.

Hello Judith, welcome to the site.  Smiley

What type of files are they? I mean are they Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Pictures, Songs, Videos?
What type of email account are you using? Yahoo, Gmail, Email via Microsoft Outlook? If you use a webmail email like Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail what web browser do you use? Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari?

thanks for the welcome! The browser I use is Internet Explorer, operating system is Vista (basic), email is through Talktalk (when using outlook they open), the documents tend to just be Word. The main problem is when I use my college site and try to access the course material it gives the same options as an attachment (open save cancel). I try open then it says its going to a temp file then instead of opening automatically it just ends. I try to save to a place and the same thing happens. But I have used this for couple of years on xp (desktop) and this has never been an issue, just wonder if and how to change the settings. Many thanks I do have a screen print of what is happening step by step if there is a way of emailing it to you?

I believe I know what your problem is. The files you are receiving are probably Adobe Acrobat files. Check out the following tutorial. It will show you How-To Download and Install Adobe Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader is 100% free.

Temp folder is hidden in windows. When searching for file, also check to search hidden files.
