I`m on Outlook 2007 account pop/smtp-Windows XP-Home Edition.
I understand that, to have the "recover deleted items" in the dropdown in Outlook 2007 (tools), i would need to have a Microsoft Exchange account. However, i don`t need a Microsoft Exchange account. So i edited the registry as follows:-
Browse to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options then typed in DumpsterControlAlways On, then changed the Dword value to 1 and after that the "Recover deleted items" is supposed to be in the dropdown under tools in Outlook 2007, but it`s not there. Any suggestions

Do you just want to figure out how to bring up that feature but don't need to use it or did you empty your email trash but need to recover an email?

I am asking because if you really need to recover a deleted email you can look for it on the email server. An example is Gmail. I use Outlook on my home pc to view my Gmail. If i empty the trash can in Outlook there is a chance I can look through all the email folders on Gmail.com and the email will still be there.

I`d like the ability to recover deleted emails if deleted by mistake. How do you use Outllook to view gmail? Smiley

when you set up your outlook, did you have an email address that you added to it?
something like your bigpond . com signin, hotmail, gmail, yahoo, dodo etc...
in that account you will find all your emails.
i would open outlook and see the name your inbox is addressed to (like, terrace @ hotmail.)
that will be the account you need to sign in to.
ive got a few methods in mind for recovery but it depends on if the emails were downloaded to your computer, another if there deleted from the recycle bin, another for outlook recovery(that one costs money tho).
before you decide on the recovery methods i would try and figure the account outlooks attached to first. data recovery is a long and boring job, sometimes not recovering much and also risk recovering infected files.
i can link videos if thats an interest of anyones?

If you have Hotmail/Livemail you can still access it via Outlook 97. The main settings you must know are the mail servers.

Incoming server: pop3.live.com
Outgoing server: smtp.live.com

Here are detailed instructions...

about your other problem, recover deleted items...
I looked it up and could not find a way to get that feature without using a Microsoft Exchange Email account.

Yes it looks like that. I did see an article on another forum regarding changing the registry by typing in DumpsterAlwaysOn and changing the dword value to 1. It seemed to say that the recover deleted items option would then be available after doing that but it didn`t happen when i did it. Smiley
