About 2 weeks ago I decided to upgrade my main hard drive on my home computer. I wanted to make it faster with a newer technology "SSD" hard drive (very fast but costly). I ordered it online from a local place.

I drove to the local place... excited to pick up my new SSD hard drive ("Crucial RealSSD C300"). The lady at the place told me that they don't stock them locally Angry
The lady said that she could have it shipped there in 5 days. I just canceled my order since it is cheaper on Amazon.com and there is additional savings there Amazon will not charge me sales tax. I went home disappointed since I wanted to install the hard drive that day.

Since I was going to have to order it online to get it at a good price I decided to research SSDs more. I wanted to get the best one in category. From the reviews and speed tests the Crucial RealSSD lineup was the best. I was originally going to order the 64 GB version but I read it is not as fast (when writing data) as the 128 and 256 GB versions with the 256 GB version being the fastest. I didn’t have the money for the 256 GB version so I settled on the 128 GB version.

I ordered the drive and it took about a week to get here since I paid for the cheapest shipping. Then when it got here I forgot that I had to back up all my important files (a ton of them) and program settings. That took another day or two. Then I had fun away from my computer and home during the Halloween weekend, lol.

I put in the hard drive on Monday and reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit. Everything went okay… then it started to freeze. I spent a long time to try to figure out the problem but could not that day. I just slept on it. The next day I figured out that the source of the problem was coming from a USB port/device. It was probably the brand new software and drivers I installed from the Logitech website for my 2 Logitech mice (1 for gaming and the other is a wireless mouse for general use). I reformatted my new SSD hard drive and installed Windows 7 64-bit again. This time I installed all of the drivers with the exception of the Logitech software and driver package.

After I started installing all of the programs I had on my computer (which are quite a few). I also started to optimize and customize Windows with my personal preferences. I am still not done with installing the programs I had on my PC and throwing the backed up files on my new computer setup.  I might not be done with that for another week.

I just thought I’d take a break from the restoration and answer some questions on ClearTechInfo :-)

NOTE: Something new that I am doing is storing all of my passwords on “KeePass Password Safe” http://keepass.info/

I am using the “KeeFox” Firefox plugin which integrates KeePass with Firefox.
http://keefox.org

I highly recommend NOT saving your passwords on Firefox or any other browser. Use a more secure program that stores all of your passwords for you like KeePass or LastPass.
