Hello again, i don`t know if this is your area but i`ll run it by you anyway. I use Google gadgets, particularly the Google analog clock . Each time i bootup i get the message "the following gadgets could not be loaded" ( attached). I can install it manually, but as i said the message keeps appearing and the clock is not there. It was going ok until i installed a new internet security. I had to change from Firefox to Internet Explorer to install the new internet security. After that i changed back to Firefox. Any clues Smiley

I'm familiar with Google Sidebar/Desktop.  Smiley

Here is my suggestion:
1. If you don't have it download and install the free Revo Uninstaller
2. Uninstall Google Desktop/Sidebar using Revo Uninstaller
3. Turn OFF all your Security and Anti-Virus software
4. Download and install Google Desktop/Sidebar
5. With your Security / Anti-Virus software still turned OFF, install any/all Google Gadgets you had before.
6. Restart your computer (which should reenable all your Security/Anti-Virus software) and tell me how everything went

Hello, i did all that you said, twice, but the same message box comes up at bootup and no clock/gadget. The other image shows the uninstall mode selection.

I was hoping 1-6 would work. Now we will go to Step #7...

7. You must, "Make and Exception" or "Allow" Google Desktop and Google Sidebar

This tells your security and anti-virus program that Google Desktop/Sidebar is not a virus or threat to your computer in any way. Your Security and Anti-Virus programs will back off and allow Google Desktop and Sidebar to have full permission to do anything on your computer.

What Security and Anti-Virus software do you have?

I found this tutorial for you on the security software you have.
http://bigpond.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bigpond.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=12743#9

What you need to do is manually, Make an Exception/Allow the Google Desktop/Sidebar to be displayed. Also add the Google.com website to your Approved Site list.

I had a look in the tutorial and checked the Bigpond for approved sites but can`t figure out what may be blocking. My attachment shows what`s in there.  Under games and toys doesnt seem to apply.

Thanks. Yes, sometimes the image works on my end but not the other. I`ll try Revo again. Although that google gadget clock worked once today when i turned off and on again, but now it`s back to the message not loaded. Strange. Cheers

Tried Revo again etc., but no luck. Google Desktop loads at bootup but not the sidebar/gadgets. I`m wondering, down on the bottom right of the screen shot attached, when i put the cursor on the Google icon a message says "Google desktop index update in progress", which is there all the time, constantly, could that have something to do with it?  Smiley

I'm about 95% sure that the problem is your security/anti-virus software. Your protection software thinks Google Desktop/Sidebar is a virus and it is trying to protect you by shutting it down the best it can. When Google Desktop is trying to index your computer files it prevents it from happening or stalls it the best it can because it thinks it is a virus.

I've never had experience using your security/anti-virus software before so I am not sure how to tell it that Google Desktop/Sidebar is not a virus. You need to check through all the options/settings and see if you can find it.

Hi, i`ve been all over this Bigpond security, changing, testing things restarting the computer turning off the security, uninstalling, reinstalling using revo. On a couple of occasions the thing restarted and the google clock appeared automatically as was usual, but most other times the message box- cannot load google sidebar. Don`t know. Cheers

I`ve been in touch with Bigpond Internet Security technical support also, and they sent a removal tool to me and advised me to uninstall and test without  Bigpond Security, which i did, and the result was, twice, the google clock appeared upon bootup. Then i reinstalled it, unticking the "content and filtering & privacy" setting in the reinstall procedure, as they advised, then tested it again, and the message came up as before(attached). Therefore, as you said the thing doesn`t work while Bigpond Security is installed. I`ve replied to Bigpond Security and told them all this and see what they can come up with. Cheers

Is there some sort of Application Filtering setting? If there is, messing with those settings might solve the issue.

I see on that picture of the settings there is an option for, "Filter Exceptions". That MIGHT be the place you add Google Desktop/Sidebar as an exception which will allow it to load.

Grin I just realised that each time i run a spyware scan a "backdoor.Sdbot/rat" infection is found. I delete it or quarantine it. I wonder if that could be the culprit? I`ve contacted bigpond by email to see if it can be removed permanently with their security program. Terry

I couldn't see this image http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/7808/filterexcept.jpg]

The backdoor.Sdbot/rat infection is another issue. Definitely take care of the infection first, then get back to the Google software issue.

As far as the 2 things being related, I doubt it.

Don`t know what`s happening to my images. Anyway i`ve been researching backdoor.SD Bot/rat and there seems to be a process about it to get rid of it completely. I did go into task manager and took it out of there but other than that i don`t know. Do you think an infection like this could cause the Google thing? Did this image show? I opened it on my end.

The 2 should not be related.

Download SUPERAntiSPyware (free version) and run it. It might do the job.

I`ve asked Bigpond Security technical support to check the whole thing to see what may be causing the problem. I`ll keep you posted if i learn something. Cheers

Thank You. Afterthought>This Konfabulator clock doesn`t give a message "the following could not be loaded", like with the google clock, it just loads. Just maybe it was Google not Bigpond. Anyway i`m happy with this new one. Cheers. Grin
