I`m getting a lot of "server not found" (attached) when i open my Firefox browser and it`s most annoying. I`m using Firefox 3.6 and Windows XP Home Edition. Is there a solution to it please?  Smiley

That message comes up and not my home page

From my experience of using the Internet since the 90s the three main causes for that are...
#1 the website you are trying to visit is down or it is having some sort of uptime problem. There is nothing you can do about this problem, it is the website's fault.
#2 your Internet provider (DSL, Cable or whatever else you have) is having connection issues / service problems. Most of the time you can't do anything about this but sometimes if you disconnect your DSL or Cable modem's power cord AND network cord for a couple of minutes (restart your computer while it is off), then plug it back in it MIGHT work normal again.
#3 someone else that uses your Internet connection is hogging the bandwidth. Most of the time this can happen if they are heavy downloaders. It can slow your connection to a screeching hold, almost like you don't have Internet. Or maybe someone is stealing your wireless signal that you don't know about? They can be downloading heavily which will cause your net connection to slow down so much. Make sure you use WPA2 Encryption with a password that is very hard to figure out.

It can also be a faulty wired / wireless networking card OR a virus/malware, but both these scenarios are in very rare cases.

Thank You for your reply i undestand what you said. I do have a wireless security key (WPA). I`ll try the things you mentioned. From research i`ve tried the following:-disable prefetching about config etc.,-start>run>type in cmd>type in ipconfig /flushdns etc.,-In firefox tools> options>settings>(see attached) "no proxy" was already checked so i checked "auto detect proxy settings for this network". So i`ll wait and see.  Grin
