hi guys,i thought id share my speed tests running a Thomson TG782T home network gateway router,my I.S.P is Bigpond.please note im living in a remote area and was pleasantly supprised with the results.
Tests running windows7 with a 30 metre ethenet cable,3 inch phone line to splitter cable, and a 2.5 meter DSL cable to router.
all settings at default (by default my home network gateway was set to public network)
-please note i have not yet configured my firmware-
* speedtest.net

download speed 14.41 mb/ps
upload speed         0.72 mb/ps
test 2.    ping 42ms
download speed 13.95 mb/ps
upload speed         0.77 mb/ps
* ozspeedtest.com
-test 1.   ADSL,ADSL +2,wireless,satellite,cable test @ 3mb
test time 1.3 seconds
line speed  18.89 mb/ps
download     2.31 mb/ps
-test 2.   Mirror ECN Communications ADSL (as above) @ 3mb
line speed 72.91 mb/ps
download    8.9   mb/ps
-test 3.    ADSL (as above using the same mirror) @ 9mb
line speed 26.22 mb/ps
download     3.2 mb/ps

*ok now running XP-home aswell as windows7 (all tests done together at the same time)*
speedtest.net
XP-home. 1 meter ethernet cable, Ping 26ms.      Win7. 30 meter ethernet cable,Ping 42ms
the first 2 tests xp-home could not finish the the upload, seems win7 took majority of the usage.
*Pings remained the same for the next test
XP-home                                                                                   Windows 7
download speed 17.17 mb/ps                                       download speed 11.95 mb/ps
upload speed      0.75 mb/ps                                        upload speed      0.76 mb/ps

XP-home tested individually
Ping 24ms after reopening my browser
download speed 17.02 mb/ps
upload speed      0.76 mb/ps
*I didnt test XP-pro because i had uninstalled the antivirus a few weeks ago and am about to format.cant wait to see how 'linux mint-Julia' goes.

hi guys, ive just watched a few tutorials on my firmware.
turns out telstra doesnt like to support online gaming, and may offer a company called gizmo to configure the router at an expence.this doesnt matter much to myself as im to busy studying at the moment to get to deep into gaming, however im aware theres many gamers on this site and have found a few vids on youtube to enable port forwarding.so if anyone has the same router or intends to purchase this router,i would strongly suggest researching as much info as they can find first.
ill just drop the URL's to the vids.
joey if this seems irrelevant or posted in the wrong place, just delete this post Smiley

vid1 is about info re- port forwarding.

the 2nd is how to enable the ports, some of the comments offer port numbers also.
