The signal strength in the wireless connection in my taskbar icon shows low-very low-no signal. (attached). It`s on Cable Wi Fi Netgear modem wireless.  Very occassionally it shows very good-good-rarely shows excellent. Status is connected and the everytning else is working ok. Any suggestions? Smiley

Hi Terrace,

Place the wireless router as high as you can in whatever room it is in. That will increase the signal strength coming from the router.

Thanks. It`s up as high as i can get it but no change. It`s strange that the computer is connected and works ok, but the signal isn`t showing strong, low and sometimes no signal. The modem is a Netgear CGD24n v2 just recently installed. It has two  internal antenaee, no external.

Place it side-ways, see if that helps.

Hello again. I found that cordless phones, microwaves etc., can affect the Cable Wi Fi wireless signal strength, particularly, if a cordless phone of 2.4ghz is the same frequency as the Cable Wi Fi wireless settings.  My ISP technician changed the channel in my wireless settings and now the signal is always "excellent". Also he said it`s important that the region be set correctly for the country and not to have it set at automatic. Hope this could help someone. Grin

So if the wireless is cutting in and out sometimes, change the Wireless Channel. Good to know  Smiley

Yes, i`ve been trying to get somewhere with this for a long time. This particular Bigpond technician came to the house and did it for me. he showed me how to get into the Netgear wireless settings>address -username/password - then set the channel-country-don`t set automatic. If what is chosen and doesn`t work change to another channel. Of course the procedure may be different where you are. Cordless phones and other electronic devices, as you would be aware, are notorious for interfering with the wireless frequency. Cheers. Grin
