Hi your pc will support windows XP and Vista.
also you could try one of the Linux Operating Systems,my favorite is LINUX MINT-JULIA,i find it to be quite stable but learning it is quite hard at first.after downloading the ISO File,i use 'CD Burner XP' to burn it. its a free disc burning program, theres a tutorial on it in the video section on this site.i burn the ISO at 24x4234 kb/s i find burning to fast or slow can create errors in the system.just run your computer to boot from CD,then it will load the 'live CD' you can try it out and play with it before installing it to your hard drive.im actually insalling it in an hour or so as a dual boot with XP.im just finishing my windows insall at the moment.i plan to make a tutorial on it,but wont get around to editing it till at least tomorrow or the day after.
you can also try a program that will tell you if your PC is capable of running windows7. -link below- you will have to have frame work 2 or higher to run the program.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15&displaylang=en

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC is ready for Windows 7. It scans your hardware, devices, and installed programs for known compatibility issues, gives you guidance on how to resolve potential issues found, and recommends what to do before you upgrade.

hope this helps you Smiley

The best desktop operating system to use depends on what its intended use will be and who will be using it. There is no specific operating system which can be called "the best" overall, and since most current operating systems share most common and advanced features there is much debate on the topic. A few of the most popular operating system, their pros and cons, and some of their best uses are described below.

You might want to upgrade that RAM to about 2GB or above and run Ubuntu Linux 11.04! (:
