Having minor problems with the 7 Zip program. (listed in another thread)

I am doing this just to be sure of if I downloaded the proper 7-Zip program.
Thanks again guys.

There is a cool, little program called SIW that will get you that info and a lot more. Checkout my latest tutorial on SIW, it will show you how it works. How-To Find your computer system specs using SIW

While using it can you do me a favor and tell me the results (WinXP or Vista? 32 or 64-bit?). Also can you tell me your CPU specs and how much RAM you have? The tutorial will walk you through obtaining both of those system specs.

Hi joey,
Finally made it back. I followed the video instructions and downloaded the SIW program. Thank you once again. It was simple too.

I found the CPU specs you asked about and after I clicked on CPU...it said this.
(inside and across from where it said: Number of CPU"S )

"One physical Processor/One Core/ One Logical Processor/64 bits."

So that tells me I have a 64 bit system right?

As for the RAM info...I couldn't find anything on that. Most likely it was staring me in the face and I didn't know what I was looking at. But I looked for the term RAM and didn't see it in any of the places I looked at under hardware.
Probably looked in the wrong sections.

So according to the CPU info above, (if that's the proper specs) I should uninstall the current 32 bit 7-ZIP program and install the other 64 bit?

Oh, and if you don't mind joey, could you tell me where to look for the RAM info while I am at this? The video didn't really touch on that spec specifically.
You've got me real curious now.

(Oh almost forgot, I have the Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1.)

Thanks again joey.

OK,
Back again after looking for RAM info as you had asked.
And I hope this helps.

Under Hardware, I opened and looked under Memory.

Here a couple of specs I found there.

Under Memory Summery
max capacity= 4096 MBytes

Data width= 64 bits (there's the 64 bit spec again)

(I am not sure how much of it is still free (memory that is) but I will check if you think I need to)

Once again, if I am correct about all of this info, all I really need to do is download the 64 bit program? At least to see if that's really the simple solution here.

thanx.....yet again!

Well, I thought I would go ahead and download the 64bit program just to see if that was the problem. and as I tried to run it, ta window popped up and said the following.

"This installation package is not supported but this processor type.
Contact you product vendor"

(You can well imagine what I wanted to say right here!)

Well so it goes and now I am back to square one. Sigh, I know that the info I provided you above was correct, but perhaps I am looking in the wrong spec sections and gave you the wrong information.
I am now completely submissive and at your mercy. lol

Hi Toni,

The spec for the memory is for something else. It just means you are able to install up to 4 GB (4,096 MB) of RAM on your PC. The “Data width= 64 bits” is just a memory spec, it doesn’t have to do with your Operating System.

Check the info under, Software > Operating Sytems
Does it say, “x64” or “64-bit”? If it does not then you have a 32-bit operating system, which I am guessing you do.

Also...

Did you try my recommendation from the other post? I believe it might solve your problem. .avi files come in several different flavors. One of them Windows recognizes and the others it does not. I show/explain it much better in the video within my post below. I show you how Windows cannot play the .avi file then after installing a couple of things it is able to play Any video file.

It doesn't say 64 bit anywhere in Operating Systems.
(For what it's worth dept) It did have one spec that said: DEP = for 32 bit application.

joey,
I just downloaded both media players you recommended in your video and so far they have played some of the files I had problems with. (wonderful)
So far things are looking very good.

On one file.... the first player I tried to play it with, said the file was broken and asked if I wanted to repair it. but also said it could take a long time.

But then when I clicked the "do not repair"...the other player automatically kicked in and played it ok.

So thank you so very much joey.
Seems you have saved me! lol

I'll be back for more tech info ok.
Got a question about display drives. But that's for a little later.

thanks again.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi joey!
 It's me again.

Yes I am back with more questions for you. After my last post (above...when everything looked good)) I began having problems viewing the Rar files again. Yes, again.

I have no problems while downloading the files ....but when I try to decompress (extract)  the file for viewing....it stops a little short into completion, and a window pops up suddenly saying the file is broken.
Naturally I can't view it.

And sadly this is happening with all Rar files now. Any suggestions?

Once again, when I first downloaded the 7-Zip system, I was able to successfully view a few Rar files...(not many but a few).... but then as time went by, they all began to come up "broken".

Thanks joey

It may be the files themselves. I emailed you a Test .rar file. See if you can open it up.

Hi,
Thanks joey.
I recieved it and after I figured out how to save it to a folder for testing...it worked ok!
The song was by Cream (?) and it played perfectly fine, however there was no visual at all.

What I sent you was just a simple audio file from Cream. There are no visuals to it. If you were able to open it and the song played fine then your 7-zip program is works perfectly.

The problem lies on the .rar files themselves. The .rar files were either created with an error (I've done this before without knowing) or when you downloaded them there might have been an Internet hiccup which caused this error (this has also happened to me in the past).

But I'm sure I'll be back soon to pester you on some other things as well. See ya then.
Thanks again joey.

LOL...hey joey, for what it's worth now. I found one of the specs you wanted earlier by accident.

I have 1.00 GB. of Ram and I confirmed that I do have the 32 bit program.

LOL, I almost forgot about this problem.

1 GB is good. But if you ever want to speed up your computer in the future I suggest getting an extra 1 or 2 GB more.  Smiley
