For various reasons I need to format my laptop hard drive and load XP pro OS. However my disc drive is intermittently not working right and I don't know if its hardware or driver either way I don't trust it, so I want to know if I can load XP using a usb method like a memory stick, or are the usb drivers not going to be loaded at that stage?

Cheers

Installing Windows XP vis USB definitely can be done. You just have to make sure your laptop supports booting off a USB device.

Here is a tutorial I found that will show you how to install Windows XP via USB
