Adobe Shockwave Player

 Player installed but doesn't show animation on test page. What are possible causes to check , etc. Thanks.

Usually the cause is a very strong pop-up blocker on your browser, maybe a flash/shockwave blocker you installed or a security/anti-virus program that blocks shockwave.

thanks for your reply. I am using firefox 7.0.1.  I have not installed a shockwave blocker.
My antivirus program is Vipre. How would i narrow it down if firefox or vipre is the culprit. Should I uninstall the shockwave player and install again to see if that may help? Thanks for your consideration. Terry

Try to disable your antivirus program temporarily. Then open up Firefox and go to the site below to test Shockwave.

Thank you Joey for your help. I disabled Vipre and went to  test page stating Adobe Shockwave Player installed. Still no animation displayed. What next please. T

It may be a strong toolbar popup blocker or something that is attached to your browser. I am not sure what web browser you used. But for this next test use another browser.

Do the same as before (disable Vipre) and open up another web browser and try to go to the same link.
Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari are the most popular web browsers I know of. Use one of those that you already have not used. Also make sure your web browser is up-to-date.

Besides Vipre, is there any security or firewall program loaded on your PC?

I was reading the Shockwave.com help pages about an hour ago. It mentioned something that I didn’t think of. When you first installed Shockwave I assume you installed it while Vipre was active and running. Vipre might have thought Shockwave is a virus and prevented it from installing 100%. Try the following…

Throughout every step you must disable/fully exit out of Vipre. All 3 sites I will tell you to download from are very professional and free of viruses (I use them on PCs at work almost every day).

1 – Disable / Fully exit out of Vipre (and if it comes on at any point, like after a PC restart disable/exit it again)

2 – Download and Install the Free version of “Revo Uninstaller” here: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

3 – Download and Install the Free version of “CCleaner” here: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

4 – Run Revo Uninstaller. Look at everything installed on your PC.
 Uninstall All instances that you see of “Shockwave”, “Adobe Shockwave” and “Macromedia Shockwave”

5 – Restart your PC

6 – Run CCleaner. Use the “Cleaner” function. Check the boxes I check in this screen shot I took of my PC http://i.minus.com/iqrcewTzurLcr.png
Then use the “Registry” function. Allow it to Fix all errors it finds.

7 – Restart your PC

8 – Be sure that Vipre is fully exited/disabled again. Also make sure that no other security/Firewall program is running

9 – Open up Google Chrome and go to the site http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
When you clock on that yellow button with a down arrow that says “Agree and install now” you will download the Adobe Shockwave file to your PC.

10 – Close Google Chrome and close any web browser or program currently open.
Find the Shockwave file that was downloaded to your PC. It should be called something like “Shockwave_Installer_Slim”. Double click it to install it.

11 – After the install is finished go to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ to test it.
More than likely you will get a small notification at the top that asks you to install a Shockwave plug-in or something that allows you to use Shockwave. Allow it to install.

You should be able to view Shockwave now.

Thanks again for your input. Before I attempt your suggestion I wish to give you the following info: Vipre gives you a warning when it is going to block a site. That didn't happen when I installed shockwave player. It states it is installed on shock wave page and I find the program in control panel under add or remove program. I already had adobe flash player 11plug in listed in control panel although it doesn't show anything under size.  Adobe shockwave player 11.6 under installed programs shows size 9.73MB I read that the shockwave player has flash player built in it. Could the flash player 11 plug in I have (if it is active considering the above scenario) block the shockwave player. Is the plugin 11 installed if it shows no size in control panel? I currently use wise registry cleaner and win utilities that also has a registry cleaner. I just saw that chrome google I installed the past couple days has adobe flashplayer built in. I have no idea if that changes anything but I wished to convey that before I proceed. Sincerely, Terry

Hi Terry,

I have seen problems with Flash and Shockwave before but I have never seen any that related to the both of them. If the 2 do conflict now this is a new problem I have not seen.

As you observed, the newer versions of Google Chrome do have Adobe Flash integrated in them. I don't really see any problems with this.

I am all set to run through the steps above. Before I start I saw today the shockwave requirements. How strict that is I wouldn't know. Requirement: Intel Pentium 4 processor, xp/service pack2, 512 MB Ram, IE 6,7, or 8 or Firefox 2 or 3. The computer I am using is HPa545c: It only has 512MB ram installed. It has the capacity to be doubled. The processor is AMD Athlon XP.
My sister acquired the computer in2004 or 2005 I believe. Could this just be a memory problem?I do have xp/service pack 3 installed. If those specs are not a problem I will proceed following the steps you sent. Incidentally it doesn't list google chrome although a broadcaster I subscribe to suggested google chrome and shockwave player and flash player to view his streams. That is why I had tried to install shock wave player in first place! Thanks for your patience. Please let me know if I should proceed considering the specs of the computer. Terry

Your PC specs are good. If the computer is too slow what would happen is that it would run shockwave super slow, almost freeze it. You don't have any of those issues.

After I uninstalled shockwave player it stated found leftover registry items and underneath select all in one box and delete in adjacent box. I thought all should be deleted(guessing cause I was not sure), but I didn't cause it is hard to undo things. If I needed to delete leftover registry items the program no longer shows so how would I delte if needed. Thanks
