I want to make posters for a project I'm doing (not really a project, but that's what I call it). We don't have the money to afford Photoshop for my Windows 7 laptop, so I'm looking to see if there's a free alternative to Photoshop for Windows 7 users. I tried using GIMP but it's a little bit difficult to understand it. All I want to do for my poster using one of these (free) alternatives is create a list with big bold letters.

Any recommendations, (or) any recommendations from this list?
