When attempting to export favorites in IE8 (Vista Ultimate)  I get the message "Some settings were not exported successfully".  When checking the .htm file to see what wasn't exported, I find that only about 5% of my favorites were backed up.

I used the File/Import and Export/Export to a File/Favorites/Favorites/Type or browse to a file (saved as bookmark.htm/finish.

Is there a solution to this problem.  I've searched on the net and found others were having this problem, but no one seemed to be able to give a solution to the problem, only to suggest the correct way to export, which is what I have done.

Any help  you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hey I have not heard of this problem before.

I Know that the new IE is giving people problems.

Okay, why don't you,
1) see if you could back it up while the vista is running in safemode
2) find out what would be the next Favorite of the 5% that would be saved and erase it so that its not the one that corrupting the database.
3) this one will take some now how. I'm not to sure how to do this on vista but their is a database minder program that could help, its on windows 98, 8 or 9 yrs. ago I used to use it to fix a database all the time. But I have forgotten how to do this all together. I haven't done this in a while.

I sure hope to find out what this issue is caused by I Know Joey will surely find out what it is.

There is also an alternate way of saving your bookmarks using Delicious. Using the free service I backup all my bookmarks to my Delicious account and I can access them from any computer with an Internet connection.

I don't know where/when the problem got introduced to IE8 but it is caused by overlong URLs being saved as the Favorite name.

I think that IE8 will currently allow these long names (as the default is the URL) when saving tab groups into new Favorites folders.  It won't then export (or let you organise them) through IE.
