A programming language (originally named, “OAK”) developed by Sun Microsystems during the early 1990s for portable and set-top consumer electronics. During the mid-1990s Java was modified so it could be used on the newly expanding Internet.
Java is a simplified object-oriented language similar to C++. It is platform-independent and works on Windows, Linux and Macintosh computers. A Java Internet program is called an, “applet”.
