This just happened to me. It freaked me out. Was looking how to RMA or get support from the One Plus company for my One Plus One phone. Then I calmed down a bit and thought on how I could fix the problem on my own, if possible. Here is what happened and how I fixed / solved the problem…
I reached into my pocket to look at the time on my One Plus One phone. I pressed the button the turn on the screen, nothing happened. I thought I hit the volume button instead and put the phone closer to my eyes to make sure I was pushing the correct button, but still, nothing. My phone is dead. It seems like the battery just fully lost its charge but that is impossible since I just charged it this morning and I know the charge was above 90%.
While searching the One Plus site and forums for support I thought of performing a hard reset. It had to be a physical hard reset since I could not login to my phone, search the settings on the UI and select to reset it. I pressed and held the power button on my phone then pressed and held the Volume Down button. About 10 seconds later I see the screen light up (which brought overwhelming joy to me, lol) and it went into a system menu that gave me a few options. I selected to Reboot my phone. Everything is back to normal now, phone is great again.
How-To Perform a Physical Hard Reset on the One Plus One phone
Step 1: Press and Hold Down the Power Button
Step 2: Immediately after holding down the power button, Press and Hold Down the Volume Down button
Step 3: While still holding down the Power and Volume Down buttons wait until you see the screen light up. After you see the screen light up release the buttons. If your phone was frozen just wait until the screen changes.
Step 4: Select the option at the top that Reboots your Phone -

Thanks for your solution. I have just had the same problem. With a non removable battery I was concerned on how to reboot the phone.

Wow, thanks so much! Had the exact same thing: a black screen and nothing I did had any effect. I was also considering an RMA, when I found your tutorial. It worked like a charm, the one+ one is up and running again!
