Star Wars: The Old Republic System Requirements (Can’t Play it on your Computer?)

The official release date of Star Wars: The Old Republic is December 20th, 2011. I can’t wait for this date. SWTOR is another MMORPG I will
buy that will cause me to lose track of time and not want to do anything else but play the game. I haven’t decided if I want to be part of the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire but the Sith Warrior with a specialization of Juggernaut looks very appealing to me right now.
EDIT: Early access to the SWTOR servers began on December 13th. I received my early access emaili on December 16th.
I am on the PVP West server named "The Swiftsure" as a Sith Warrior. My avatar name is NeroJoe. Say HI if you see me on there. Even better, if you are a Sith on my server feel free to help me from getting zerged or ganked. I am not that good on MMOs, need all the help I can get. lol
In case you are wondering, yes a monthly subscription is required to play. Below are the current monthly subscription fees.
• 1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99)
• 3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97)
• 6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month (one-time charge of $77.94/£46.14/€65.94)
Anyone coming from World of Warcraft or other older MMO games, please be aware that Star Wars: The Old Republic minimum system requirements are a lot harsher. Many of you that can run WoW at good graphics settings may not be able to run SWTOR smoothly. Please check your computer’s Processor, RAM (aka “memory”) and Graphics Card specs before you buy the game.
Star Wars: The Old Republic will Not work on Tablets or Netbooks, new or old. SWTOR will run okay on laptops and desktops with basic “on-board” / “integrated” graphics cards, but you need to have a decent fast processor and preferably 3+ GB of RAM. To achieve smooth frame rates with on-board graphics, you will need to play at low graphics settings; probably the lowest settings possible (again, you must have a decent fast CPU and 3+ GB or RAM if you have an on-board graphics card). I do not recommend playing SWTOR with an on-board / integrated graphics card if you want to play at good graphic detail settings.
If you have any problem installing or playing Star Wars: The Old Republic smoothly on your computer or if you are not sure if your PC is compatible with Star Wars: The Old Republic, feel free to ask for help in the comments section below.
It would help a lot if you give us the following info about your computer when you ask for help…

Hello. Your laptop easily passes the Star Wars: The Old Republic minimum system requirements. You will be able to run SWTOR on low to medium graphics settings.
re: Vista + nVidia GeForce 7150M running SWTOR [Guest]
Star Wars: The Old Republic is compatible with Vista and the nVidia GeForce 7150M. BUT you must make sure that the computer’s CPU and RAM are compatible. If the CPU or RAM do not meet the SWTOR minimum system requirements then SWTOR will give you problems.

re: Will my laptop run [Ben]
Hi Ben. SWTOR will run on your setup. BUT the Intel HD graphics card that you have can only handle the lowest graphics settings. Otherwise the game will lag like crazy and you might encounter other problems like the game crashing.

re: What level will this laptop run SWTOR at? [Jeremy]
Hi Jeremy. Select the Dell with the Intel Core i7-2670QM, it is a better, faster processor.
It will be able to play SWTOR at medium graphics settings, with full resolution.
What level will this laptop run SWTOR at?
I am looking at the following laptops, what level of detail could I reasonably expect to play SWTOR at with these machines?
Dell Inspiron 17R
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2450M processor 2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz
8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
750GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

re: Best Computer to buy [Dennis]
Hi Dennis. Here is a good gaming laptop to buy that will run SWTOR very smooth at good graphics settings.
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1DY73J
There are cheaper laptops out there but they have a slower CPU and/or a slower, integrated graphics card and are not meant for serious games like SWTOR.
There are also similar laptops are are more expensive like from Alienware. Those laptops are not worth the high price tag.
Best Computer to buy
I want to buy my 12 year old son a new Computer. He likes gaming and we just bought Star Wars The Old Republic but it doesn't run right on what we have. It is the same as the HP Pavilion comment on by someone else.
Any suggestions as to what Laptop to buy ?
Thanks,
Dennis
re: game booster problems [Guest]
I have seen reports of this before. Here is what to do to fix the problem…
#1 – Run SWTOR
#2 – Minimize SWTOR (DO NOT exit, just minimize the game). I do this on my PC by pressing the “Windows” key on my keyboard
#3 – Launch game booster
#4 – Maximize SWTOR and play the game
Btw, I am assuming you have the latest version of Game Booster installed. If not install it. The newest version fixes half of these issues.
game booster problems
i was wondering if you could help mate my game booster 3 isit working with swtor as i load up the game it trys to launch then its says game booster returing to normal mode plz help many thnx?
re: HP laptop DV6-2162nr, updating Intel HD driver [Guest]
You are welcome :-)
Wow, I never would have guessed the new Mass Effect 3 demo would run laptop better than SWTOR does, heh. ME3 is tougher on PCs than SWTOR is.
The graphics problem you are having is common with some laptops that have an Intel HD card. Driver Sweeper is the simplest way to uninstall graphic drivers but not the only way. I will show you how to manually uninstall the Intel HD driver. Follow all of the steps below in order…
#1 – Download/Install the latest Intel HD drivers for your setup from the Intel website (ZIP file version).
Download this exact file for your laptop setup: http://j.mp/IntelHD-W764-Jan2012
#2 – Unzip the file you just downloaded and leave it alone. You will get back to this folder in a bit.
#3 – You need to manually Uninstall your current Intel graphic card drivers. This is how to do it…
- Go to your Windows “Computer” icon (or you could just hit the Start button and go to the “Computer” category / link).
- RIGHT-click “Computer” then select “Manage” from the popup
- Follow the instructions in the image below to uninstall the graphics drivers via the Device Manager.
http://i.minus.com/ibaosjJB4PSHwT.png
- If the computer asks you to restart, do Not do it!
#4 – Now go back to the Intel driver folder you just unzipped. In there will be a file named something like “READ ME”. Open that file with Notepad or WordPad. Follow the instructions on how to install the driver (Hint: It is almost the same as uninstalling a driver)
#5 – Restart your computer after the graphics drivers are installed
btw, thanks for giving feedback on how Mass Effect 3 runs on your laptop. There are a ton of people on here that have similar laptop specs. I am sure a lot of them will ask me how or if ME3 will run on their laptop. Now I know :-)
Hey Joey - I first want to
Hey Joey -
I first want to say thank you for providing this article and all of the help you've given many people in running this game the past few months.
Unfortunately, I have the same problem. Funny thing is, my laptop can run the Mass Effect 3 demo (albeit on low) with a playable frame rate. However when it comes to SW:TOR - not so much. I get a broken mirror effect everytime I log on, with huge blocks of black and grey and brown color.
My specs are as follows -
HP laptop DV6-2162nr
Intel i3 2.27 ghz
4GB Ram
Win 7 64bit
Intel HD Graphics (integrated)
The problem with my laptop is that HP is horrible with the drivers. I tried using your method of installing the new drivers from the Intel website and initiating driver sweeper - however with driver sweeper all the option i see is for intel - chipset, not the videocard. Do you know of any solutions to my problem? Thanks
re: what would you recomened to upgrade my acer aspire [Guest]
I am sorry to tell you that your laptop’s graphics card is not upgradeable. It is integrated onto the laptop’s circuit board (aka “motherboard”) and cannot be removed.
The processor is upgradeable. You’d have to go to the Acer website and lookup documentation on your specific model. Lookup the fastest processor it could accept. If it is not listed on the website you might have to call up Acer.
re: PCI-Express x16 power connectors [Dustin]
Hi Dustin. Yes, that is okay. That is how I used to run the power connectors on a system I used to have.
what would you recomened to upgrade my acer aspire to play swtor
is it possible to change my graphics car and processor and if so what would you recommend

Hey joey my question is can
Hey joey my question is can I run the Radeon 6850 perfectly fine if the one six pin connector is contected to an adapter that is connected to a splitter. I know its a little confusing. Basically I dont have a free 6 pin adapter I only have to female white 4 prong adapters. One is being used to power my fan and led and the other is freed up. I was just wondering would it be ok to connect a splitter to that one free white 4 prong to turn it into two available white 4 prong and then connect a 6 pin adapter to that. You get it? Basically Im having to connect two adapters to just have the one 6pin power adapter for my graphics card because the psu I have doesnt have what I need. Help!!!
re: will my laptop run swtor? [guest]
Processor: AMD Athlon II x2 p320 2.1 ghz
Ram: 3 gb ddr3
Graphics:ATI Mobilty Radeon hd 4250
Hello. Your laptop will run Star Wars: The Old Republic. BUT your CPU and graphics card are a little slow for the new SWTOR standards. So you will only be able to run the game smoothly at the lowest possible graphics settings. I also recommend following my SWTOR laptop optimization guide below…
#1 –Fully update Windows 7. (Some games will not run properly if Windows is not fully updated.) Make sure all of the updates are installed then restart your PC. Check for new updates that popped up after the restart.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...
#2 – Download/Install the latest Mobility Radeon HD 4250 drivers from this site:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
#3 – Restart your computer after the graphics drivers are installed
#4 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#5 – Make sure the laptop is plugged into the A/C power adapter before and during gameplay. If it is unplugged the CPU and Graphics card might power down to save battery life. This is bad for gaming and will decrease frame rates (it sometimes makes a compatible laptop fall into the non-compatible category).
#6 – Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk before and during gameplay; preferably in a cool area. The last thing you want to do is play with the laptop on your lap. Laptop overheating can cause a laptop to crash while playing the latest games. It might also force the laptop to slow down your CPU, which again is very bad for gaming.
#7 – Run Game Booster, run SWTOR (but do NOT play it yet)
#8 – Go into the SWTOR settings, specifically the Graphics settings. Set everything to the absolute lowest possible. I took a screen show below with my computer set to the lowest SWTOR settings. Copy my screen shot.
http://i.minus.com/ibhvtLnv8JtJfc.png
Save / Apply settings
#9 – Play SWTOR

The only thing you will use by using 2 power connectors is the ability to a second hard drive. If you ever want to do this you just have to get another splitter to connect your 2nd hard drive. But I strongly suggest that you do not do this. You don't want to allow the Radeon HD graphics card to suck as much power as it can from your power supply. In a few years if you ever need more hard drive space just buy a large replacement for your main hard drive, like 3 GB.

Hey Joey.
First id like to thank you for all your help so far. I got my computer today and opened it up just to find out I dont have the six pin connector on my PSU. I contacted the seller and they are going to send me an adapter and a spliter because Ive got to hook to one four prong because my other is being used by a 10inch fan and some LED lights (just a few). My PSU is a 550w but its made by Okia and Im a little unsure wether it will run every thing. I have to hook a splitter to the first white4 prong and then the adapter for the six pin to that. 2 total. Also will I loose anything by connecting two adapters from the main PSU line? It seems like it would work I just want to know if everything would run smoothly. Heres my specs once again
