Crysis 2 System Requirements (Can’t play it on your computer?)
The original Crysis which was released in 2007 instantly became the ultimate computer gaming system benchmark. The game was so tough on
PCs. In 2007 most systems barely could run it at medium settings at best, if they could run it at all. Now in March 2011 Crysis 2 has been released. Similar to the original the graphics of the game look freakin’ sweet. You will also need a pretty fast modern, gaming PC to run Crysis 2 at decent graphics settings smoothly.

If would help a lot if you give us the following info on your computer when you ask for help…
- Operating System (also is it 32 or 64-bit?)
- Processor on your computer
- Amount of RAM on your computer
- Graphic card on your computer
- Do you have a Desktop or Laptop?
If you are unsure of any particular computer specification your PC may have that is not a problem. Just follow this tutorial and it will show you how to find all of your PC system specs.

My crappy old toshiba laptop satellite L305D with ATI Radeon 3100 integrated graphics can plays this game on highest settings without crashing...(yes... highest res as well already tested it and it didnt crash. but was super laggy is all) that means i can surely play the game on the lowest setting. :)

The fastest graphics card for $100 would be the Radeon HD 6750. It will run Crysis 2 smoothly as long as you have a compatible, fast processor and 2+ GB of RAM.

5th --- Make sure the laptop is plugged into the A/C power adapter. If it is unplugged the processor will be powered down to save batter life. This would be horrible for games and cause problems.
6th --- Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk before and during gameplay; preferably in a cool area. The last thing you want to do is play with the laptop on your lap. Laptop overheating will also cause problems while playing PC games
7th --- Run Game Booster, then run Crysis 2
8th --- Go into the graphics settings. Set the graphic settings to Medium.
Save / “Apply” settings and exit the menu
9th --- Play Crysis 2

Crysis 2 will run really laggy. The GeForce GT 220 is below the minimum requirements.
Upgrade to 4 GB of RAM and a faster graphics card like the GTX 550 Ti if you really want to play Crysis 2 without problems.

Hi Ashish. That CPU and RAM are okay. But the GeForce 8400 GS is not compatible, according to the makers of Crysis 2.
You can try to updated to the latest 8400 GS drivers here. There is a very small chance it might work with the updated drives. But even if it does work the game will run REALLY slow.

Yes, that is odd. Crysis 2 hardcore is harsher on a PC’s graphics card than MW3 is. But Modern Warfare 3 is more CPU intensive. MW3 is programmed from the same code that Black Ops was coded from. I remember Black Ops ran laggy on a couple of PCs that had a Pentium D 3.6 GHz (this CPU is about the same speed or slower than a “Core 2 Duo” 2.4 GHz). I thought MW3 might have fixed that issue and used more graphics card than CPU but I guess not.
Try a couple of things…
I think you are already using it but if you are not, install the free app “Game Booster”:

The next step would be to update Windows but you said you already did this so skip this step.
Then install the latest nVidia GeForce driver that was released this month:

- After the driver is updated, restart your PC.
Try to run the game. See if it smoothest out a bit. It just will not be able to run at high settings due to the CPU.

Hi Atif. The Intel Core i3 3.1 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM are really good when running Crysis 2. But the nVidia GeForce GT 520 graphics card is a little on the low-end for the new Crysis 2 standards. I am guessing the other people with a Core i3, 4 GB of RAM had a faster GeForce card? Maybe the GT 555 or faster? That would make a big difference with Crysis 2.
You are right about DirectX. DX9 does run faster than DX11. When Crysis 2 is installed on a Windows XP machine it automatically sets it to DX9 (this is mainly b/c XP does not support DX11). Vista and 7 fully support DX11. I am not sure how to change it DX9 once it installed with DX11. But I did find a Crysis 2 utility app that allows you to customize the graphic settings a lot more than what you can do now.

hi i have a new laptop that i thought would be a great gaming laptop, but when trying to play crysis 2 i seem to stutter and then crashes out of game,

Hello. Thanks for posting your specs.
I have bad news for you. The Intel HD graphics card is a really good one for stuff like HD movies, Facebook games and Angry Birds but not for serious games. When I say serious games I mean games like Crysis 2. The Intel HD graphics card is well below the Crysis 2 minimum system requirements. The reason is stutters and crashes is because the Intel HD card severely struggles to process the graphics. You will not be able to upgrade the graphics card on that laptop either. Maybe you have a desktop PC with a good graphics card and a fast CPU?

Hi Will. If you run Crysis 2 at “High” settings with 1280x720 resolutions the game will run exceptionally smooth. With your laptop I’d even test out the “Very High” settings using 1280x720 (not sure how smooth it will be but it won’t hurt your PC).
It would be a good idea to optimize your laptop for Crysis 2 a bit. Follow my instructions below…
1st, Fully updated Windows 7.

According to the makers of Crysis 2, the GeForce 9400 GT is not compatible with Crysis 2 and there is nothing you can do do that card to make it compatible.
From my experience: Sometimes (not always but sometimes) even if you have a GeForce or ATI/AMD graphics card that is slightly below the minimum system requirements, The game can still run. BUT it will be a little laggy.
Here is what to do to optimize your PC for Crysis 2…
1st, Fully updated Windows. You did not say if you have Windows 7, Vista or XP so I can’t give you specific instructions on how to perform the process. So just check on youtube for videos on, “How to Update Windows XP” or whatever other version you have.
2nd, Update the GeForce 9400 GT to the latest driver. Only get it at the nVidia site located here:

- Restart your PC after the drivers are installed

If you followed every step in the exact order and Crysis 2 does not run then the only way to get it working is to buy another graphics card that is fast enough the run the game. I recommend the GeForce GTX 460 or faster graphics card for Crysis 2.

Hello. The 8400 GS is too slow to run Crysis 2. You need to replace that with a lot faster graphics card. The GeForce GTX 460 would be a very good upgrade. Then you will be able to run Crysis 2 smoothly without problems.
The Intel HD graphics card on your laptop will not run Crysis 2 well, if at all. You will not be able to upgrade the graphics card on this laptop. So you just need to play Crysis 2 on your desktop after you upgrade the desktop graphics card.

If you are thinking about buying a new gaming laptop then here are my recommendations…
My 2 favorite gaming laptop manufacturers at the moment are M.S.I and Asus. They make fast gaming laptops for a good price.

i installed crysis 2 on my desktop i have all the latest drivers 4 my graphics card wen i open the exe it gives me a msg that my 8400 gs isnt supported and that playing may result in unexpected problems or crashes.
I took the risk once n played 4 an hour on high (its the lowest setting high ,very high ,extreme, ultra)there is a very very small lag so can i ignore the msg or will my pc really crash?

You are getting that message because the makers of Crysis 2 list your graphics card as not being fast enough to run the game. Sometimes when a graphics card is not fast enough it will crash the PC or just run really laggy. You did not post your CPU specs so I assume it does not run that laggy because you have a fast CPU that is helping to smooth out the game?
I would also highly recommend installing/running the free app “Game Booster”. It will smooth out some lag.

If your PC was playing fine for 4 hours then you can ignore the message. If it was going to crash it would have done so within an hour. Just be aware that during heaving battles where there are lots of explosions and people around you the game will lag more than normal. There is not anything you can do about that, other than using Game Booster. This is due to the 8400 GS not being fast enough to handle the graphics during heavy battle.

Hi Jamie. Crysis 2 will install and run on your laptop. But even at the lowest graphic settings there will be noticeable lag during battles. This is mainly due to the graphics card, it’s not that fast for the new Crysis 2 standards. The graphics card is capable of processing COD: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 smoothly but Crysis 2 is a lot more demanding.

Hi Matthew. Crysis 2 will run smoothly on your laptop at low graphics settings. There is a chance it will run smoothly at medium settings, don’t be afraid to test it out.
Before you install Crysis 2 I recommend 1st updating Windows 7 via Microsoft Updates, then updating the GT 420m to the latest nVidia drivers. Get the GT 420M laptop drivers only from this site: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Hi Tony,
The CPU you have is an Intel Core i7-2600, correct? If yes then that CPU is one of the fastest you can buy for games. This CPU can max out all games out right now at decent frame rates.
8 GB of RAM is great. It can also max out all games out right now.
The problem is the nVidia 520 graphics card. This is a low-mid range card. Definitely slowing Crysis 2 and Skyrim down. You need to replace with a minimum of an nVidia GeForce GTX 460. If you want maxed out graphics performance buy a minimum of a GeForce 560 Ti or faster.

The Radeon HD 6870 is even faster than the GeForce GTX 460. I just recommended a GeForce card since some people like to stick to the same brands. But if you are okay with Radeon then your choice of an HD 6870 is really good since it will run Crysis 2 very well.
NOTE: It does not matter if you get a new Radeon or GeForce, do not install the drivers inside the box. Go to the nVidia or AMD/ATI website to download the drivers for the GeForce or Radeon card. The newest ones on the website will run Crysis 2 the best.

Buy the GeForce 560 Ti, it has better performance over the HD 6870. Remember when buying the card to select the “Ti” version and not the regular 560, there is a performance difference.

Hello. Your PC does not pass the Crysis 2 minimum system requirements.
Here is what you need to buy:
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 550 Ti (or better)
RAM: Upgrade to 4 GB
(Your CPU is a little slow for Crysis 2 standards but you might be able to get away with it. 1st buy the graphic card and RAM then run Crysis 2.)
After you upgrade your graphics card and RAM download/install the free app “Game Booster”:

Hello. I am sorry to say that your laptop is not compatible with Crysis 2. The main reason is the graphics card. The Intel GMA 4500 MHD is well below the Crysis 2 minimum system requirements. If the game even installs it will run really laggy, maybe even freeze your laptop.

Hi enteng. If you have any install problems with Crysis 2 using disks you bought then you can contact Electronic Arts and ask them to email you a link to the downloadable version. They will ask you for the key/serial that came with the game to verify proof of purchase.
Also, the nVidia GeForce 210 is well below the Crysis 2 minimum system requirements. That may also be the problem. (The CPU and RAM pass the minimums, it is just the graphics card that is not comaptible)
