Total War: Shogun 2 System Requirements (Can’t play it on your computer?)

If you are into Strategy based games then I definitely recommend “Total War: Shogun 2” from Sega. Before it was even released it received good reviews from several big gaming sites. The new features and the gameplay of Total War: Shogun 2 are pretty awesome.
The minimum system requirements for Total War: Shogun 2 are not that
high compared to other games like Call of Duty: Black Ops. But I’d still recommend checking your PC specs before you buy the game to make sure you at least meet the minimum requirements which are posted below.
If you are unsure of any particular computer specification you may have that is not a problem. Just follow this tutorial and it will show you how to find all of your PC system specs.

Steam
Hi,
I am having a problem with this game when I try to play it on Steam. Whenever I try to play it shows the name of the game with the companies that made it. The only problem is that it is in a small box while the rest of the screen is black. After about 20 seconds my computer restarts itself. After my computer restarts I log in and my internet isnt working and i can not find my wifi. I have to shut down my computer and then restart everything. I need to know how I can fix this.
P.S. I have a HP 2311x and I do not own the cds.

ive got all the specs, i think

im very unsure about nvdia 8300gs card, because i heard about the lag in the game, on some high graphics cards, and i know i had to napleon total war on low settings becasue of the smoke. so can a nvdia 8300gs run it? or not?
re specs [mikey]
Hello mikey,
The nVidia 8300 GS will run Shogun 2. But just as you guess it will not run it that well. You must play Shogun 2 at the lowest possible graphic settings so it can run okay. To play Shogun on your PC follow my optimization instructions below to squeeze every bit of performance out of your computer.
#1 –Fully update Windows 7. (Some games will not run properly if Windows is not fully updated.) Make sure all of the updates are installed then restart your PC. Check for new updates that popped up after the restart.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject:http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-Update
#2 – Download/Install the latest nVidia 8300 GS drivers for your PC. Only get then at this nVidia site: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
#3 – Restart your computer after the graphics drivers are installed
#4 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#5 – Run Game Booster, then run Shogun 2 (but DO NOT play it yet)
#6 – Go into the Shogun 2 settings/options and copy everything you see in my screen shot linked below.

Save / Apply settings
#7 – Play Total War: Shogun 2
What Settings can I play at?
I really want to play this game, and I want to know at what settings will I be able to play this game at.

Thanks for your help!
re: What Settings can I play at? [Ian]
Hi Ian,
The nVidia GTX 560 Ti is an awesome gaming graphics card, so is your Core i5-2500K cpu. If you add that to your system you will be able to play Shogun 2 on high settings.
Thanks for your help. Is
Thanks for your help. Is high the best setting for total war? If not is there anything that I could do to make it run in all of its glory with crashing my system or making it slow down?
re: Thanks for your help [Ian]
Hi Ian,
To make Shogun 2 run the smoothest it is best to go into the graphic settings and select the "DirectX 9" option. Version 11 of DirectX may run too slow.

re: Shogun 2 not working on my laptop!! HELP someone!! [Cloud]
Hi Cloud. There are a few people that had this problem. What they did to solve it is install the latest Video and Audio drivers. It also might help to fully update Windows 7 and install Game Booster.
Follow all of my instructions in order…
#1 –Fully update Windows 7. (Some games will not run properly if Windows is not fully updated.) Make sure all of the updates are installed then restart your PC. Check for new updates that popped up after the restart.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject:http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-Update
#2 – Download/Install the latest Mobile Intel HD drivers for your setup from the Intel website (ZIP file version). Since you posted all of your laptop info I was able to search the Intel site for you. Here is the exact download page for your Windows 7 64-bit laptop: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20843&ProdId=3231&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers
#3 – Unzip the file you just downloaded and leave it alone. You will get back to this folder in a bit.
#4 – You need to manually Uninstall your current Intel graphic card drivers. This is how to do it…
- Go to your Windows “Computer” icon (or you could just hit the Start button and go to the “Computer” category / link).
- RIGHT-click “Computer” then select “Manage” from the popup
- Follow the instructions in the image below to uninstall the graphics drivers via the Device Manager.
http://i.minus.com/ibaosjJB4PSHwT.png
- If the computer asks you to restart, do NOT do it!
- The screen should look weird now, that is normal
#5 – Now get back to this location: http://i.minus.com/ibaosjJB4PSHwT.png
- This time select the option, “Update Driver Software…”
- Select the option from the new popup Window that says, “Browse my computer for driver software”
- Point it to the new Intel HD driver software you unzipped earlier
- Finish the install, the rest of the process will be easy
#6 – Restart your computer after the graphics drivers are installed
#7 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#8 – Make sure the laptop is plugged into the A/C power adapter before and during gameplay. If it is unplugged the CPU and Graphics card might power down to save battery life. This is bad for gaming and will decrease frame rates (it sometimes makes a compatible laptop fall into the non-compatible category).
#9 – Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk before and during gameplay; preferably in a cool area. The last thing you want to do is play with the laptop on your lap. Laptop overheating can cause a laptop to crash while playing the latest games. It might also force the laptop to slow down your CPU, which again is very bad for gaming.
#10 – Run Game Booster first. Then run Shogun 2.
Does it work? If the answer is No, then we need to reinstall the Audio/Sound card drivers. Either way, post back on here saying if it worked or not. I am sure there are a lot of people with your exact problem that are too shy to ask for help :-)
Nope, it didn't work:(
Nope, it didn't work:(
re: Nope, it didn't work:( [Cloud]
Did you follow every step (1-10) in order?
re:Nope, it didn't work:( [Joey]
Yes. I did follow the steps in order but still it have the same problem. Same goes to the cracked one. Is it the graphics or the lack of space? (I have only 1.2GB left after completing the 10-steps you taught me to do.)
I did but still the same
I did but still the same problem:(
Thanks for the help:). But..
Thanks for the help Joey:). But does updating the window 7 cost money? And how much space does that need?
I do need a tutorial cuz this is my only laptop and does not wish to risk it.
Anyway thanks for the tips!! I thank you very much!! :D
re: Thanks for the help:). But.. [Cloud]
Updating Windows 7 does not cost money. It only costs money if you upgrade from Vista or Windows XP to Windows 7.
I think I found someone with your exact Shogun 2 black screen problem here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHhgdAMgAMc
What he is was...
1 - Press the Start button
2 - Find/go into your control panel
3 - Find the Programs Uninstall category, go in there
4 - Uninstall RealTek high definition drivers
5 - Restart your PC
re: Thanks for the help Joey:) [Cloud]
You are welcome :-)
Updating Windows 7 is 100% free. Checkout my tutorial on how to do that: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...

2gb! thank god you can run the game!
re: Shogun 2 running laggy [abanks917]
The processor and 2 GB of RAM pass the minimums but not by that much. You did not post your graphics card but if it is an integrated/on-board graphics card then Shogun 2 running laggy would be normal.
Make sure everything is set to the lowest by copying the settings shown on my screen shot. Be sure to chance the “DirectX Mode” to version 9. 9 runs Shogun 2 the smoothest.

Also it would help a little if you used the free app “Game Booster”. Get game booster here: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
Total war shogun 2 fall of the samurai has stop working..??
intel pentium..
nvidia geforce gt520 1gb..
rate:5.1
ram:4gb
can sir help me..?? i dont know what to do.... and also i have download game booster... but still... same...
re: Total war shogun 2 fall of the samurai... [Neuromancer093]
Hi Neuromancer. The GeForce GT 520 graphics card and 4 GB of RAM are good, pass Shogun 2 minimum requirements. I am not sure if the processor is compatible, you just said you have an Intel Pentium. Maybe you have a Pentium 4? Those CPUs are not compatible with Shogun 2.
Also I am not sure what you mean by, it has stopped working. So does this mean you were able to play the game perfectly for a week and now the game freezes your computer every time you try to open it? Or maybe you tried to install the game but it stopped working during the install?
Just 5 or 6 turn and its crash... :(
Hi Sir..
I really dont know about it... but if its true that my laptop use intel pentium 4... and thats mean i cannot play the game..?? hmh....
sorry not to mention detail about it. About the installation, there is nothing error... and also i can play the game but just for a while.. i mean... when its come at the 5 or 6 of my turn.. it will stop/jam and back to the desktop..it say the 'total war shogun 2 fall of the samurai' has stop working.. same thing when i play the custom battle.
but before this..i instal and play the 'total war shogun 2' and also same as this problem..but..... i can only play the short campaign.. and when i try a long campaign it will crash.. but this matter doesnt disturb me as well i can play it.. but for the 'fall of the samurai' is different...all the campaign i cannot play it..
maybe the dvd has something file missing..?? or it must be verify first..??
can sir help me and give me idea to solve this problem?? i can't wait to play it.
re: Just 5 or 6 turn and its crash... :( [Neuromancer093]
Hi Neuromancer. Thanks for giving more detail, it helps a lot :-)
It is not your DVD-rom or disc. If it was then you would have a LOT of trouble installing the game. You probably would not be able to install it.
I have seen that laptop problem that you described before. One of our website moderators named, “Anne” had the same problem last year. Her laptop would crash while playing games. She could not play longer than 1 hour before the game crashed. But when she was just on stuff like YouTube, Facebook, checking email, chatting, her laptop would run without any problems all day long. Laptop overheating was causing the problems since playing serious PC games like Shogun 2 causes ALL computers to heat up. Some laptops/desktops deal with the heat better than others. As the years go buy all computers tend to heat up more than they did the first year they were bough if the dust that accumulates was never cleaned out. You need to minimize heating and maximize cooling.
This is what she did to solve the problem…
#1 – She flipped the laptop upside-down and opened up the panels/compartments/bottom-cover. Then she used a can of “air duster” to blow out all of the build up dust. Try to focus on the fans and vents you see. Those need to be dust/dirt free. (for this step you need to buy a can of “compressed air” / “air duster” and use a screw driver)
#2 – She then purchased a “laptop cooler”. To know which laptop cooler is the best for you, read the reviews on Amazon.com and NewEgg.com, then purchase one from either of those sites.
#3 – She downloaded and installed the free app named, “Game Booster” http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
#4 – She made sure to plug in the laptop to its power source before and during gameplay. Not doing so can power down the processor, which is bad for gaming and can cause it to crash.
#5 – She placed the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk every time she played games. Placing the laptop on your lap is bad when gaming. It can cause it to heat up more than it should. Again, this can cause it to crash.
#6 – At this point you are ready to play the game. Run Game Booster then run Shogun 2.
#7 – Go into the graphic settings and set everything to the lowest possible. Copy the screen shot Anne took of Shogun 2 graphic settings…
http://minus.com/mKepKxHOo/1f
- Save / Apply settings
#8 Play Shogun 2 for over an hour :-)
btw, the below tutorial steps will show you how to lookup your full processor specs as well as a lot of other important PC specs. This will work on any Windows XP, Vista or 7 computer.
How to figure out what Processor, Graphics card and how much RAM your PC has…
--- Hit the START button, then RIGHT-click “Computer”, select “Properties”. A new Windows will pop-up
--- Within that new Window you will be able to grab the following info…
----- Windows version and if it is 32 or 64-bit
-----If you have service pack 1 installed it will be displayed near the top
----- Exact processor model and specs
----- How much RAM your PC has installed
--- Next Step: Click the “Device Manager” link at the Top-Left of the Window that you have opened
--- Within the new Window that popped up click, “Display adapters”
--- Your graphics card model number will be displayed
Thankz Sir... :)
For another sir information... i buy may laptop at first january 2012... did i really have to clean it from the inside..??
and i already download the game booster...
i also play my laptop at my 'table(always)',, and already use my brother 'laptop cooler'...
and the game "fall of the samurai" that i buy... when we want to choose the clan.. there is information about the clan right..?? but my game.. it says... that this game is "pirate".. and it "cannot run to long"... or it has the "virus" or "cheat".. and also it says "to cache the game in stea"... i really dont understand about that.. hmm........
anyway... thanks sir for your advise.. i will take it with me as my experience even my problem is still unknown.. :D
re: Thankz Sir... :) [Neuromancer093]
Hi Neuromancer :)
If the game was not bought and downloaded at Steam then you will have problems. If you downloaded the game off some random game download site then do a Google Search for, "Fall of the Samurai crack". The sites that pop up should help you out.
Lousy Steam Program!
Shogun 2 FOTS causes my system to lock up after a black screen. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I had the original Shogun 2 running before, but now even that won't run. SEGA and Steam are absolutely no F'N help whatsoever. Can you offer any help?

Do you have any Shogun 2 mods installed? If yes then uninstall then, restart your PC then launch FOTS again.
No mods. Just the core game
No mods. Just the core game and whatever it spent all night downloading from Steam.
Tried Napoleon Total war and it at least gets to the intro screen before it locks up.
re: No mods. Just the core game [Guest]
I just went on the official Shogun 2 tech forums. I am surprised how many people are having trouble with FOTS expansion. Seems like they released this game a little too early and it needs to be patched up to fix numerous problems.
Check out the thread: http://forums.totalwar.com/forumdisplay.php/96-Total-War-Shogun-2-Suppor...

re: Radeon HD 6770 1600x1050 [theo]
Hi Theo :-)
With the Radeon HD 6770 you will be able to run on high settings. Just remember to select, "DirectX 9" within the Shogun 2 graphic settings. Your PC is capable of DirectX 11 but it will be laggy at high settings.
btw, I don't remember you ever posting your processor or RAM specs. I am just assuming you have 4+ GB of RAM and a fast processor.
Dear joey
thank you for all the help i have 16 gb ram and an amd fx 8120 8 core cpu
re: Dear Joey [theo]
You are welcome. Yes, you definitely will be able to run Shogun 2 on high settings :-)
sorry to hassle you again
sorry to hassle you again but how much difference does DX 11 make and what what be a suitable Radeon Gpu to run shogun 2 on ultra and Dx11?
Thanks
re: sorry to hassle you again [Theo]
Hi Theo, np :-)
Don’t buy anything just yet. You might be able to run Shogun 2 on Ultra using DX11 with your current setup. One of the latest Shogun 2 patches/updates fixed performance issues. But in order you to do this with your current setup here is what you must do…
#1 –Fully update Windows 7. Some games like Shogun 2 that run on Microsoft’s DirextX technology not run properly if Windows is not fully updated. There is also an important update or 2 that help with PC game performance issues associated with the AMD FX processors. Make sure all of the updates are installed then restart your PC. Check for new updates that popped up after the restart.
If you need it I created a tutorial on this subject: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Update-Windows-7-Microsoft-Windows-U...
#2 – Install the latest Radeon HD 6770, March 28th 2012 driver. It will optimize your HD 6770 very nicely. Get it at this download page: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.as...
- Download/Install the 161 MB file
- Restart your PC after the install is complete
*** At this point feel free to install Total War: Shogun 2 if you have not already done so already. Be patient and let it automatically install the latest updates
#3 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I created a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#4 – Run Game Booster, then run Total War: Shogun 2 (but DO NOT play it yet)
#5 – Go into the graphic settings and set everything to Ultra.
- Save / Apply settings
#6 – Play Shogun 2 :-)
After playing Shogun 2 for a while, please come back on here and tell us how smooth it is during heavy battles. Does it skip or is it super smooth?
ok thanks joey i will have
ok thanks joey i will have to do these things when i get back from holidays i will reply and tell you guys how smooth it runs the day i get back sorry if u wanted it sooner :(
re: ok thanks joey i will have [Theo]

Dear joey
thanks for the help but what settings can i get with 1600x1050?

Hello!
Being new to PC gaming, i'll be honest and say im struggling to find a desktop that will run Shogun 2 smoothly on the highest settings but thats also good value for money. I know PC gaming isnt cheap, but i would like to save money where possible. Any advice you can give me will be a great help.
Thank you so much!

Hello :-)
Here is what I recommend for playing Shogun 2 smoothly at high settings…
Processor: Intel Core i5 3.0+ GHz
RAM: 4+ GB
Graphics Card: Radeon HD 6770 or faster
That would be the best, cheapest PC to buy. ibuypower.com and CyberPowerPC.com allows you to customize your PC and they are cheaper than Alienware.

Shogun 2 System Requirments Pentium D 3.20GHz
Hello Joey,
Would "Shogun 2 Total War" operate/function-smoothly/efficiently on the following system, and at what graphical configuration would you recommend?
Operating System: Windows Xp Professional (5.1 Build 2600)
Motherboard: Intel D975XBX
Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU 3.20 Ghz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 4GB (3326MB)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
1GB Memory (1024.0MB)
Direct X 9.0c
re: Shogun 2 System Requirments Pentium D 3.20GHz [Mabit]
Hi Mabit. Thanks for posting all of your PC hardware specs. In DirextX 9 mode your PC should run Shogun 2 easily at High settings. When you go into the Shogun 2 settings at the Top-Left there are different quality presets. Just select the “High” preset. Also make sure “DirectX 9” is selected under the DirectX Mode category.
Before playing Shogun 2 I highly recommend updating to the latest GeForce drivers. Here is the download page for your PC:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-296.10-whql-driver.html
- Restart your PC after the drivers are fully installed
Also download / install the free app “Game Booster”:
