If you are new to Tera you might be thinking, “What is so special about enchanting and masterworking your weapons and armor?” I had the same curiosity when I was a new player in Tera Rising. To briefly answer this question, enchanting increases your gear stats, so if you enchant your weapon you hit harder in PvE and PvE. If you enchant your armor your defensive stats will be increased.

[adblockingdetector id=”2″]The higher you enchant your gear the more of an increase of your main gear stat you will receive (weapons hit harder, armor further buffs your defense). Enchanting weapons and armor also opens up 3 to 4 rollable stats. Generally the rollable stats increase damage, decrease damage taken, decrease cooldowns, mana regen, hp regen as well as other possible rollable categories. Masterworking your gear will further increase your overall gear stats. Also masterworking armor and weapons will allow them to get enchanted past +9, all the way up to +12.

It is important that you know not all gear can be enchanted or masterworked. The way you can tell if gear can be enchanted is if it has greyed out stats. Gear can be masterworked is if it has greyed out stats AND it is a yellow item. I know, this may sound confusing if you are new like it did to me during my first month of playing Tera. Look at the two images below for a visual explanation.

Tera Online – Gear not able to Masterwork or EnchantThis piece of gear CANNOT be enchanted or masterworked.

Tera Online – Weapons / Armor can be masterworked or enchantedThis gear is enchantable and can be masterworked.

[adblockingdetector id=”4″]When enchanting gear to +9 you need two materials, basic alkahest and feedstock. Both materials need to be on the same tier as your gear. So if you have a tier 6 weapon you need Tier 6 Alkahest and Tier 6 Feedstock (not just 1, hundreds or thousands of them), if you have a Tier 7 chest piece you need Tier 7 Alkahest and Tier 7 Feedstock and so on. Please be aware that while enchanting at any level you will probably have a lot of failures. It does not matter if you successfully enchant to a higher level or fail, each attempt will eat up the same amount of alkahest and feedstock.

Tera – Master Enigmatic, Blessed Enigmatic, Noble Enigmatic ScrollOnce you have enchanted your gear to +9 you will no longer be able to enchant it further. To open up the enchantment to +10 and beyond you need to “Masterwork” your gear. To masterwork weapons or armor you need lots of “Intricate Identification Scrolls” and a stockpile of… “Master Enigmatic Scroll”, “Blessed Enigmatic Scroll” or one “Noble Enigmatic Scroll”. Master Enigmatic Scrolls are the basic scrolls needed to masterwork gear, Blessed Enigmatic Scrolls give a higher chance to masterwork per attempt and Noble Enigmatic Scrolls give a guaranteed masterwork when used. Noble Enigmatic Scrolls are extremely expensive, so that is why I don’t normally use them.

When attempting to masterwork your gear please note it is pure RNG. I masterworked gear with 1 attempt a few weeks ago. Then I attempted to masterwork another piece of gear and it took me 139 attempts. Both times I used Master Enigmatic Scrolls. I have also heard of people taking close to 250 attempts to masterwork a piece of gear. With all that being said, you may want to use Blessed Enigmatic Scrolls or just pay the high price for one Noble Enigmatic Scrolls. Use your own judgement on this after factoring in costs per materials.

Tera – Masterworked Alkahest, Extensive Alkahest, Premium AlkahestAfter you have masterworked your gear you are enable to enchant to +12. To enchant to +12 you need another stack of feedstock that is the same level as your gear (hundreds, possibly thousands of feedstock) and a large stack of one of the following alkahests.. Masterwork, Extensive and Premium. Masterwork Alkahest is the basic alkahest needed to enchant past +9. Extensive Alkahest gives you a higher chance to enchant. Premium Alkahest gives you the best chance to enchant your gear.

That’s all the info you need to masterwork and enchant your gear to +12. I’d like to hear your stories on enchanting and masterworking your gear. Was it horrible or maybe really easy? Doesn’t matter if you are a raw newbie masterworking and enchanting your first piece of gear or if you are a Tera veteran that has enchanted and masterworked hundreds pf pieces of gear. Daaamn! That is the worst case of RnG luck I have heard of. The most it ever took me was about 295 MWAs. But most of the time it takes me under 100 MESs to masterwork items.

      Hi Laura,

The 3 main ways I farm Masterwork Alkahest (aka “MWA”) are…
1 – The repeatable daily that everyone in Tera nicknames “30 Mobs”. I max the amount of times I complete it to earn “Vanguard Credits”. Then I jump on another max level character and farm it again. I have a max level of every class in Tera, so if I wanted to I could do it 1x with each toon on a daily basis.
You turn in your Vanguard Credits you have earned to the Vanguard daily vendor. The vendor sells Masterwork Alkahest Boxes. Each box is guaranteed to drop 16 MWA and a chance to get up to an additional 16 more.
I made a video of me opening 100 MWA boxes I got from the Vanguard vendor. I listed everything that dropped from the boxes. Here is the link to my guide and video: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/what-is-inside-masterwork-alkahest-boxes-opened-tera-online

2 – Dungeons. I haven’t done dungeons in a while, so I don’t know what they currently drop. But try every max level dungeon. See which one(s) drop the most MWA. Repeat them daily. Also do the single player dungeon “Ghillieglade” in “hard mode” (skip the first 2 bosses, go straight to the last). Once you get it down, you can easily beat it in under 4 minutes (I have done it in less than 2 mins 😀 ). Ghillieglade drops MWA that you don’t have to share with anyone, since it is single player

3 – Farm gold. With the gold you earn, buy MWA from the Trade Broker. In Tera I earn gold from selling Sea Chests I get with a daily win of Corsair’s Stronghold. You can earn 1 Sea Chest daily, per character. So if you have 8 toons you can get up to 8 daily Sea Chests. Last I saw they sell for over 1k gold. On some servers they sell for around 2k gold each. I also earn money from crafting. I craft Etching mats and Alchemy stuff to make money. Doing Ghillieglade and 30 Mobs daily also earn you gold drops.

As far as Extensive Alkahests and Premium Alkahests go…
In the past I have saved up all the Sea Chests I have won from Corsair’s Stronghold. Each Sea Chest contains a Strongbox key. During a Tera “Strongbox Jackpot Weekend”, you have a chance to win awesome prizes like, “1,000 Premium Alkahest”, “1,000 Extensive Alkahest” as well as other cool stuff that is worth a good amount of Tera gold. Always open “Locked Extensive Strongboxes” during these events because you have the chance to get additional Extensive Alkahest drops.
NOTE: Tera does not always offer Premium or Extensive Alkahest during the Strongbox Jackpot Weekends.

Here is a video is me opening 75 Locked Extensive Strongboxes during a weekend jackpot event. During this event Tera did not offer any Premium or Extensive Alkahests.
