I have seen many lists that people post about Top 5, 10, 20, etc. gadgets in various categories (I may also write something similar in the future). But I have never seen a list of someone’s favorite gadgets that they Own, so I decided to make one.
When I purchase something I always do a lot of research on the Internet and make sure it has all of the features I want. I read reviews on it, see if there are any problems and find out what real people have to say on it. I prefer that to just going on the company’s website and reading their advertisement page that makes it seem like their product is greatest thing since the invention of the wheel.
[adblockingdetector id=”1″]I recommend every item below considering I put my money where my mouth is and purchased every one of them with my hard earned money. The only exception is the laptop. The laptop was given to me by my employer. I had a choice between various models and it is the one I chose, and I love it. I posted a product link to Amazon next to each of my favorite gadgets in case you are interested in buying any of them. If you have any question about the items listed below feel free to ask. Who else would know more about a product and be honest about it than someone who actually did a lot of research and purchased it. 😉
Jawbone PRIME Bluetooth earpiece
Favorite Features:
• Size. It is extremely small and weighs almost nothing
• Supports audio books. Allows you to fast forward, rewind and “bookmark” audio files
• Really good audio quality
Main Peeve:
• Talk time is only 4.5 hours. Other earpieces offer 6 hours
Sony Micro Vault Tiny 8 GB USB
Favorite Features:
• Size. It is so freaking small. Maybe the smallest USB drive in the world?
• Read and Transfer speed. Fast compared to other USB drives I have used
• Due to it’s small size it will fit into any USB port in almost any situation. I have used several USB sticks that were unable to plug into USB ports due to their bulkiness and bad PC design
Main Peeve:
• Capacity. The Sony Micro Tiny Vault series of USB drives max out at 8 GB. Maybe the form factor is too small for a 32 or even a 16 GB version?
Belkin n52te Keypad
Favorite Features:
• 25 programmable buttons and 1programmable wheel (Works great on Call of Duty: World at War, Modern Warfare 2 and Aion)
• Comfortable even after hours and hours of continuous usage
• You can program up to 3 customizable profiles for 3 different games
Main Peeve:
• I sat and thought long and hard for any negatives. I can’t think of one. It does have an annoying blue light that comes on while connected, but you can easily turn it off with a flick of a button that is on the bottom of the device
Logitech G9 Laser Gaming Mouse
Favorite Features:
• 3200 DPI. Gives you extremely fast quickness when playing first person shooter games like Modern Warfare 2. I have been accused of “hacking” because of my quickness, lol.
• Up to 3 programmable profiles (it has 9 programmable buttons) for different games or general computer usage
• You can customize the weight of the mouse with the tiny weights it comes with
Main Peeve:
• Wish it had more buttons. Could use 2 more on the right side while playing Aion
Vantec NexStar 3 External Hard Drive Enclosure
Favorite Features:
• Compatible with both USB 2.0 and eSATA (eSATA gives you full hard drive speed that blows away USB 2.0 and FireWire 1394 speeds)
• You can easily plug in any 3.5” hard drive into the enclosure within a minute
• Small footprint. Slim and comes with a stand so you can stand it on it’s side. Hardly takes up any space
Main Peeve:
• I can’t think of any negatives to this item. Maybe FireWire 1394 and Network compatibility, but Vanec offers other versions with those features
SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 8GB MP3 Player
Favorite Features:
• Size. It is extremely small and weighs almost nothing
• Supports audio books. Allows you to fast forward, rewind and “bookmark” audio files
• Really good audio quality
Main Peeve:
• When connected to a wall charger (purchased separately) and turned off there is no feedback. You do not know when it is fully charged or if is even charging at all Extended Review of the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 8 GB
Sirius Stiletto 2 Portable Satellite Radio
Favorite Features:
• Small and portable. You can walk around while listening to live Satellite Radio
• Allows you to record any song you are listening to with a click of a button
• WiFi enabled. You are able to stream Sirius via Wireless Internet
Main Peeve:
• This has to do more with the Sirius Satellite Radio service than the player. It is really annoying when driving under a freeway overpass or bridge and the reception dies for a second or two while listening to my favorite song
Creative Labs Travelsound 250 portable speakers
Favorite Features:
• Sound quality. Surprisingly good quality coming from portable speakers
• Volume. For being so small you do not expect it to be so loud (For that that are wondering, it does not compete in volume compared to the speakers that are NOT portable. Those speakers should all be louder since they could draw much more power)
• Runs on 4 AAA batteries or wall adapter
Main Peeve:
• Weak bass. But then again what do you expect from something so compact that runs off of 4 AAA batteries?
Kodak Zi8 HD Pocket Video Camera
Favorite Features:
• Records at full HD 1,920×1,080 aka “1080P”
• External Microphone connection (it also comes with a built-in mic)
• Removable battery (as easy to replace as your cell phone battery)
Main Peeve:
• No optical zoom (like all pocked HD video cameras)
HP DV6-1361SB 2.53 GHz, 4 GB, 15.6-Inch Windows 7 Laptop HP laptop
• Intel Core2Duo 2.53 GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, 8x DVD DL writer. Those specs allow you to do almost anything with this laptop which includes video editing, listening to music, watching movies and of course all the little things like browsing your favorite sites on the Internet
• ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Video Card. This graphics card guarantees that this laptop will be able to play all of the latest games like Sims 3, Left for Dead 2 and Call of Duty: World at War
• 15.6″ HD Display (1366×768). Pretty screen and good size but not too bulky like the 17” laptops.
Main Peeve:
• “Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life”. Realistically expect 2.5 to 2.75 hours of battery life. If you are playing an intense game like Modern Warfare 2 expect more like 1.75 to 2 hours of battery life. If you want more batter life HP does sell an Extended Battery that lasts twice as long.
