Starcraft 2 System Requirements (Can’t play it on your computer?)

The original Starcraft was released on March 31st, 1998. With its release came a plethora of die hard Starcraft junkies that could not get enough of the game. Years later Blizzard announced they were working on a Starcraft 2. Starcraft junkies were hoping year after year Starcraft
2 would hit the stores shelves with no luck. Now, finally, one of the most anticipated games of all-time has been release today, July 27th, 2010... over 12 years after the initial release of the Starcraft.
The new Starcraft II was programmed with a totally new 3D graphics engine that is capable of handing visually stunning landscapes and larger armies than were possible in the original Starcraft.
VERY IMPORTANT: The original version of Starcraft may play flawlessly on your older computers. But the new Starcraft 2 will NOT play on the same old computers. With its new 3D graphics engine Starcraft 2 demands a lot faster computer with a good graphics card.
Checkout the Starcraft 2 system requirements below BEFORE you buy it for your PC or Mac.
If you are unsure of any particular computer specification you may have that is not a problem. Just follow this tutorial and it will show you how to find all your PC system specs

re: Will this iMac be able to run starcraft 2?
Hi iMac. Thanks for posting all of your specs. Yes, your Mac is compatible with Starcraft 2.
The only possible problem you may have is if your Mac OS/Software isn’t fully up-to-date.
Just update your Mac via “Software Update” like in this image: http://minus.com/myLOYbWdU#1o
Then your Mac will be 100% ready for Starcraft 2.

re: Starcraft 2? [Marco Polo]
AMD Turion II Mobile M500
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
Hi Marco Polo.
The processor and RAM are above the Starcraft 2 minimum system requirements. The HD 4200 falls below the minimums.
If you don’t mind playing at the lowest possible settings your system should be able to run Starcraft 2 smoothly if you follow my guide below…
#1 – Download and install the latest drivers for your HD 4200 from the ATI/AMD driver site: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
There may be several options. Download the lager file that is around 80-110 MB.
#2 – Restart your PC after the drivers are finished installing
#3 – Download and Install the Free version of “Game Booster”: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
In case you need it I just finished creating a video tutorial on how to install and optimize Game Booster. The video is at the end of the article: http://www.cleartechinfo.com/How-To-Get-Less-Lag-Higher-Frame-Rates-runn...
#4 – Make sure the laptop is plugged into the A/C power adapter. If it is unplugged the CPU will slow down to save batter life. This is bad for gaming and will decrease frame rates (it sometimes makes a compatible laptop fall into the non-compatible category).
#5 – Place the laptop on a flat surface like a table or desk before and during gameplay; preferably in a cool area. The last thing you want to do is play with the laptop on your lap. Laptop overheating may also slow down your CPU. (Overheating is the #1 cause of laptops freezing during gameplay)
#6 – Run Game Booster, then Run Starcraft 2 (but DO NOT play it yet).
#7 – Go into the graphics settings and set everything to the bare minimal, even the graphics resolution.
Save / Apply settings and exit the menu.
#8 – Play Starcraft 2.
Starcraft 2?
Good day,

re: cheap starcraft 2 laptop
Hi bt. The laptop you listed will not run Starcraft 2 that well. I picked out 2 below for you.
$450 - This laptop will run Starcrat 2 smoothly: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destina...
$525 - This will run Starcraft 2 better at medium settings http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destina...
cheap starcraft 2 laptop
Can you recommend a cheap laptop that will run Starcraft 2 acceptably?
Is this one better?
Processor AMD E-Series
Processor Speed 1.65GHz
System Memory (RAM) 4GB
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6320
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium
System Version 64-bit
I can see the cpu is slower, but does the graphics make up for it?
Thanks
re: Will this laptop run Starcraft 2?
Hi bt, thanks for posting your specs.
The Intel Core i3 series of CPUs are really good for Starcraft 2 gaming, easily pass the minimums. The 4 GB of RAM is really good.
The problem is the Intel HD graphics card. It is slightly below the minimum system requirement for Starcraft 2. If you play at the lowest possible graphics setting Starfract 2 might still run a little laggy during battles.
Will this laptop run Starcraft 2?
Processor Intel® 2nd Generation Core™ i3
Processor Speed 2.53GHz
System Memory (RAM) 4GB
Graphics Intel® HD Graphics HM57 UMA
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium
System Version 64-bit
Okay
Alright, thanks a lot, i'll definitely look into them, this has been a great help!
re: Graphic cards to buy for Starcraft 2
The Radeon HD 6570 is in the same league as the graphics card that Blizzard recommends for Starcraft 2 but newer. They recommend an HD 3870.
Like all ATI and nVidia graphics card, they sell the graphics processor to card companies like MSI, XFX, Asus, etc. Some companies put out higher quality cards than others. It is really good that you read the reviews on the various cards, I do the same before I buy any computer part.
The HD 6570 that is reviewed the best is the “MSI R6570-MD1GD3/LP Radeon HD 6570”. It sells for roughly $74 on Amazon and NewEgg.
I recommend this card to you since you want something to play Starcraft 2 with. You might have saw people on the net talking about how this card runs the latest 2011 games like Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2. Those are some of the most PC hardware demanding games and require a faster graphics card and a faster processor. Blizzard’s “recommended” cpu for Starcraft 2 is actually below the bare minimum requirements for Battlefield 3. The HD 6570 will run BF3 but only at low settings, and won’t even run if the CPU on the PC isn’t really fast. These are probably what the people were talking about. For those Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 gamers I recommend the Radeon HD 6790 or faster.
btw, what is your budget? I forgot to ask that. I just went with what Blizzard recommends for Starcraft 2.
For the 90-$100 range buy the Radeon HD 6670
For around $120 buy the Radeon HD 6790
For around $140-$160 buy the Radeon HD 6850
You can check various websites like Tom's Hardward and Anandtech for benchmarks on all of these cards. When looking at the benchmarks notice the CPU that is being used. It might be a lot faster than what you have, so that faster CPU will add to the performance.
Really?
I've been looking around at this card and a lot of reviews say it's not good for gaming, do you have any personal experience with the card to be able to reassure me that it will work? I'm somewhat paranoid of purchasing a card online and not being able to use it and then just be wasting $80-$150
Thanks
re: video card replacement for Starcraft II gaming PC
A good video card that will run Starcraft II really well, for a good price is the ATI/AMD Radeon HD 6570. You can get it from NewEgg and Amazon for under $80.
My crappy video card is no
My crappy video card is no longer able to play Starcraft II after one of it's updates, i was wondering what a recommended graphics card would be for this game, hopefully under $100?
re: can these specs run it? [for xan]
Processor: Intel Core i3 2.2 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: Intel HD
Hi xan. Your new laptop will run Star Wars: The Old Republic smoothly. Since the Intel HD is a low end graphics card for SWTOR standards you will only be able to play SWTOR smoothly on low graphics settings.
can these specs run it?
Processor, Memory, and Motherboard
Hardware Platform: PC
Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i3
Number of Processors: 1
RAM: 4 GB
Max RAM: 8 GB
Hard Drive
Size: 640 GB
Manufacturer: SATA
Speed: 5400 rpm
Graphics and Display
Graphics Card: HD Graphics
Interface: Integrated
LCD Native Resolution: 1336 x 768
this is from a new laptop im getting just for starcraft 2
re: The same problem (gkfalk)
The Diablo III specs have not been posted yet. But it sounds like you need to update your graphics card drivers. I would assume that the Diablo III specs are equal to or greater than Starcraft 2 minimum specs. So if your PC doesn’t meet or exceed the requirements of SC2 then I would assume it is not compatible with Diablo III.
re: Starcraft 2 Footman video card
Graphics Card: Intel G41 Express
I am sorry to tell you that the Intel G41 Express graphics card is not compatible with Starcraft 2. You must upgrade it by buying a new graphics card. Any ATI or nVidia graphics card prices over $60 will be compatible with Starcraft 2. Just make sure your CPU and RAM are compatible with the game.
re: AMD E-350, HD 6310 Starcraft 2 compatibility (for Drew)
Processor: AMD E-350 dual core
RAM: 2.6 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6310
Hello Drew,
The system specs you posted will play Starcraft 2 but you must run the game at the lowest graphics settings to run smoothly. I’d also recommend upgrading the HD 6310s drivers to the latest from AMD/ATI. You can find them here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
re: Core i7 2630, GTX 560M running Starcraft 2 and Shogun 2
Processor: Intel Core i7 2630
RAM: 12+ GB
Graphics Card: nVidia GTX 560M
Hi Gopher,
The specs you posted well exceed both the Starcraft 2 and Shogun 2 minimum requirements. You will definitely be able to play both at high graphics settings.
re: GeForce Turbocache 6200 video card running Starcraft 2
Hello Phoenix,
I am sorry, the nVidia GeForce Turbocache 6200 is not compatible with Starcraft 2. It is not fast enough to process the graphics smoothly.
re: Note for Mac Users (Sparrow)
CPU: AMD A6-3650 2.6 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: ATI Sapphire HD 6790
Hi Sparrow, nice to hear from you again. As for me I’ve really got addicted this a game called “Rift” (like World of Warcraft but newer/better) and all I could do on my free time is play it. I finally had to put a stop to it and cancel my subscription so I can get back on this site and play other games :-)
The Mac OS X laptop you posted has good specs. I suggest playing Starcraft 2 with the A/C adapter plugged in. When the laptop is running on battery power it shuts down the GT 330M and has the Intel HD graphics card do all the processing. This will give you horrible lag, even make the game incompatible.
Thanks for the update. I don’t mind that you make long posts on here. I like a lot of info :-)

re: my first pc cant play sc2 (for plzgogankz)
CPU: AMD A6-3650 2.6 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: ATI Sapphire HD 6790
Hi plzgogankz,
Your system passes the Starcraft 2 minimum requirements.
Try updating your HD 6790 graphics card drivers from the ATI site: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
re: Can i able to play SC2
Hi Sammy,
Thanks for posting your specs.
CPU: Intel Pentium E2180
RAM: 2 GB
Graphics Card: GeForce 210
OS: Win7
All of the specs you posted pass the Starcraft 2 minimum system requirement with the exception of the graphics card. The GeForce 210 is too underpowered to play the game.
I recommend upgrading to an nVidia GeForce GT 240, ATI Radeon HD 5570 or fater graphics card. Then you will be able to play SC2 very smoothly without any problems on your PC.
Can i able to play SC2

My Previous Inquiry
Actually never mind. After spending some time researching and consdering other things, I've decided to build a half-tower or full-tower instead.
Thinking of replacing my
Thinking of replacing my ancient desktop with a laptop, but would like to know first if I'll be able to play certain games (in this case SC2) at high (ideally maximum) settings: The system I'm currently thinking of will have:
core i7 2630 (sandybridge) 2 Ghz (overclocks to 2.8)
Nvidia GTX 560M (3 Gb)
12-16 Gb DDR3
Either single 7200 rpm hard drive or 2 x 7200 rpm in raid 0.
I figure this would play the game well enough, but it would be a bummer to shell out for a new machine and not be able to play with everything turned way up. Thoughts? Is the basic single-core processor speed of 2 Ghz going to be the Achilles heal here (considering this machine can run 8 virtual cores at 2 Ghz)?
Another game I'd want to be able to play at very high settings would be Shogun 2: Total War.
PS: my old XP desktop is a non-starter for SC2; under-spec-ed in pretty much every area (8-9 yrs old)
YES your PC can run it on
YES your PC can run it on medium-high settings mostly 35-45 FPS :D
